Meanwhile, the Russian military said on January 28 that it had taken control of the Dvorichna settlement in Ukraine's Kharkiv province. This is a place that Moscow controlled in 2022 but was repelled by Ukrainian forces. Also in Kharkiv, the Ukrainian emergency services said that the attack by Russian UAVs injured two people and caused a serious fire that spread over 1,500 square meters at a factory. TASS news agency reported that Russia's Akhmat special forces destroyed three Ukrainian armored vehicles in Kursk province (Russia). Ukraine 'under pressure' over time for peace talks

Head of Ukraine's Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov warned that without serious negotiations from this summer to end the war in Ukraine, the country could face dangerous developments.

US stops military aid to Ukraine

During a closed-door meeting between senior members of the Ukrainian parliament and military, an official asked Budanov “how much time Ukraine has left,” the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper reported. “He (Budanov) said that if there are no serious discussions in the summer, dangerous developments could emerge that would threaten Ukraine’s very existence,” a participant in the meeting said.

The scenario of Ukraine and Russia negotiating a solution to end the war is believed to be possible this year, especially after US President Donald Trump urged Kyiv and Moscow to negotiate soon. Last week, Mr. Trump threatened to impose sanctions on Russia if Moscow did not reach an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine. Then, on January 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to discuss the war in Ukraine with Mr. Trump.

Revealing the time Ukraine received Mirage fighters

RBC Ukraine reported on January 28 that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced that Ukraine will receive French Mirage 2000-5 fighters by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

“Soon, French Mirage aircraft will fly over Ukraine by the end of the first quarter of 2025, as announced by French President Emmanuel Macron,” Mr. Barrot said.

Mirage 2000 jets carrying missiles are being delivered to Ukraine

Information about Paris's desire to transfer Mirage fighters to Ukraine was released in June 2024. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed to speed up the transfer process.

The Mirage 2000 is a 4th generation multirole fighter developed in the 1970s by Dassault Aviation (France). More than 600 of these aircraft were built and production of this aircraft stopped in 2007. The Mirage 2000-5 version has many modern improvements, with the ability to equip Storm Shadow guided missiles or Exocet anti-ship missiles. It is not yet clear how many Mirages Ukraine will receive. The French Air Force currently has 26 Mirage 2000-5Fs in service.
