The Ukrainian military announced on January 28 that Russia launched about 100 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to attack many areas in Ukraine overnight.
Kyiv said the Russian military had launched 100 Shahed-type UAVs and various decoy UAVs into several regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian forces said they repelled Russian attacks on the cities of Chasiv Yar and Toretsk in Donetsk region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Russia lost more than 1,300 soldiers and five tanks on January 27-28. Russia and Ukraine did not comment on their opponents' claims.
According to a summary from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces deployed three attack directions in Donetsk province and made some progress, while the Ukrainian army regained control of positions near the city of Toretsk.
