TASS news agency reported that within the framework of the exercise, the two sides will study the routes for deploying tactical groups, terrain features and practice organizing communication between units, as well as approve a common control signal system.
In the first phase, the two sides practiced exchanging scenarios of terrorist attacks, evacuating civilians and hunting down illegal armed groups.
The joint Russian-Laotian military group will practice negotiating with hypothetical terrorists, evacuating civilians and eliminating illegal armed groups from a locality.
Russia sent tank units, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), special forces, air defense, communications, electronic warfare (EW) and radiation, chemical and biological defense (RCB) units, along with a number of air force units, to participate in the exercise.
Meanwhile, the Lao army will have representatives from motorized rifle units, special task forces, communications technical support and UAVs.
According to plan, the joint Russian-Lao military exercise will last 8 days.
* On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the aviation division of the Russian Black Sea Fleet conducted exercises to conduct combat missions over the Black Sea to search for and destroy unmanned aerial and naval targets.
"The combat mission was carried out in darkness, at various altitudes and included crews flying into the stratosphere at altitudes of more than 13,000 meters," the ministry said in a statement, Interfax news agency reported.
According to the source, the naval aviation regiment and the Black Sea Fleet's air defense forces took part in the exercises, using the super-maneuverable two-seat Sukhoi Su-30SM fighter jets.
The twin-engine Su-30M is designed to gain air superiority, block enemy airfields, destroy air, ground and sea targets, including at night and in difficult meteorological conditions.
