* Russia has massed troops to attack Ukraine in Kursk, mobilizing tens of thousands of soldiers in the border area to push the Eastern European country's forces out of this territory.

The press service of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has just announced that it has prevented a Ukrainian plot to hijack a Russian Mi-8MTPR-1 electronic warfare helicopter. (Reuters)

* The West is still pursuing a strategy to defeat Russia , according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

He also expressed concern about reports that Britain might allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles to attack targets in Russian territory, stressing that Moscow did not rule out this possibility. (Reuters)

* Mr. Ishiba Shigeru was re-elected as Prime Minister of Japan after two rounds of voting in the National Assembly on November 11. With this result, Prime Minister Ishiba will form a minority government. Notably, this is the first time in 30 years that the Japanese National Assembly needs to conduct a second round of voting to choose a Prime Minister.

Ishiba, president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), won with 221 votes, beating Noda Yoshihiko, president of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party (CDPJ), with 160 votes. There were 84 invalid votes due to the names of people who did not advance to the second round. (NHK)

* South Korea has established a special advisory body on relations with the new US administration, focusing on financial, trade and industrial issues, under the direction of President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Mr. Yoon commented that significant changes in the global economic and security landscape are likely to occur during Donald Trump's second term, leading to direct and significant impacts on the economy and security of South Korea, so Seoul needs to take careful preparations to proactively respond. * Australia and the Philippines will hold their first Defence Ministers' Meeting on November 12 in the Australian capital Canberra, to discuss strengthening defence cooperation through military exercises, maritime activities and multilateral coordination.

* Houthis claim to have launched a missile at the Nahal Sorek military base southeast of Jaffa, central Israel. The Iran-backed Yemeni militant group said the attack was "precise and incendiary" at the target.

Earlier, the Israeli military said it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen. (AFP)

* Progress in Iran-Saudi Arabia relations when on November 10, Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces Fayyad Al-Ruwaili made a rare visit to Iran since the two countries restored relations last year.

During the visit, Mr. Al-Ruwaili met with his Iranian counterpart, General Mohammad Bagheri, at the headquarters of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces in the capital Tehran.

* US President-elect Donald Trump asked Republican lawmakers to allow him to appoint key officials without a Senate confirmation vote, stressing: "Any Republican senator who wants to gain leadership in the Senate must agree to make appointments during the recess."

Republican senators are currently in the process of selecting their next leader, after the party regained control of the Senate from the Democrats. Under the US Constitution, the Senate must vote to approve presidential nominations for senior executive positions, including cabinet posts and judges.

However, a provision in the Constitution allows the president to bypass a Senate vote if the body is on an extended recess.

Donald Trump has also chosen Tom Homan, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to be in charge of the country's border areas in his upcoming administration. (CNN)

* The US will focus on disbursing aid to Ukraine during the transition period and will spend the remaining $6 billion in funding commitments to Kiev before President Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025.

The Biden administration will also seek to “put Ukraine in the strongest possible position on the ground so that they ultimately have the strongest possible position at the negotiating table” with Russia.

* A pair of earthquakes in Cuba, measuring 6.7 and 6.0 on the Richter scale, struck the coast of Granma province in the southeast of the country at noon on November 10 local time.
