If you look at what is happening on the ground in Donetsk, you see the Russian military advancing at a pace never seen before in this conflict ,” Mr. Freeman said in an interview with the Dialogue Works YouTube channel.

According to him, even the Ukrainian media began to admit that the front was collapsing.

There has never been a case where those sitting at the negotiating table have regained what they lost on the battlefield, so there should be negotiations and they will be based primarily on Russia's terms ,” Mr. Freeman stressed.

The West wants Ukraine to de-escalate the conflict

According to the Financial Times, Ukraine's allies want the country to de-escalate the conflict.

The only strategy the West is considering is territorial concessions in exchange for Ukraine’s membership in NATO ,” the Financial Times quoted a senior Western official as saying.

Also according to the Financial Times, President Zelensky is under pressure from Western partners who want him to take steps to resolve the conflict through negotiations.

Most sides want to reduce tensions ,” said a senior Ukrainian official.

Meanwhile, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine lost nearly 19,000 troops after nearly 2 months of attacking Kursk.

In total, during the fighting in Kursk, the enemy lost more than 18,900 servicemen, 133 tanks, 65 infantry fighting vehicles, 98 armored personnel carriers, 856 armored fighting vehicles and 562 other military vehicles ,” the Russian statement said.

Ukraine is reportedly seeking to accelerate its military operations ahead of next month’s US presidential election, but Kiev’s plans have been hampered by the West’s reluctance to supply long-range weapons and allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory.

In addition, Ukraine's defenses are now stretched as they have to divert forces from the Eastern front to the offensive and take control of territories on Russia's Kursk border.
