Reuters news agency reported that the Russian government's announcement said that the decision to impose temporary restrictions on exports to the US was signed "on the president's instructions in response to restrictions and bans imposed by Washington", but that there would be exceptions.

According to the US nuclear agency, Russia holds about 44% of the world's uranium enrichment capacity and about 35% of Washington's nuclear fuel imports previously came from Moscow.

However, Russia's decision is only a symbolic retaliation because since May, President Joe Biden signed into law a ban on imports of enriched uranium from Moscow, although Washington is also capable of issuing exemptions if there are concerns about supply.

Regarding Russia-US relations, on the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared that Moscow does not interfere in Washington's internal affairs and has never taken such action.

The statement was made when a reporter asked him to comment on the personnel appointments in the upcoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump, especially the decision to choose Mr. Marco Rubio - a figure with a tough stance on China - as US Secretary of State.

Also on November 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergai Lavrov said he did not know how US President-elect Donald Trump intended to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, but Moscow looked forward to seeing what the 47th White House boss would come up with.
