The Ukrainian army announced that it had repelled the Russian attack in the city of Kupiansk (Kharkiv province), while the situation was not very positive at the important stronghold of Kurakhove.
Russia and Ukraine both issued statements on the fighting situation in Kupiansk on November 14. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that Russian troops had been unable to enter the city of Kupiansk in Kharkiv province, after Ukrainian soldiers defending the city repelled Moscow's attack, according to the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper.
Ukrainian General Staff spokesman Andrii Kovalov said the Russian military launched four attacks on Kupiansk on the afternoon of November 13, deploying several units of armored fighting vehicles and UR-77 mine-clearing vehicles. Mr. Kovalov also accused the Russian military of wearing the uniforms of the Ukrainian armed forces as a disguise, which is considered a violation of wartime rules.

Meanwhile, on November 14, TASS news agency quoted the pro-Russian press agency in Kharkiv as accusing the Ukrainian army of mistreating people in Kupiansk who refused to evacuate from the front line. Russia and Ukraine did not comment on their opponents' statements.
Kupiansk was captured by Russian forces in the early days of the war, but was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in a lightning counteroffensive a few months later. In recent months, the area has seen increased activity by Russian forces.
Russian soldiers carry out artillery fire
In another development, the Russian military announced that it had taken control of the village of Voznesenka in Donetsk province, thereby creating more momentum towards the city of Kurakhove, one of the top targets that Moscow wants to control, in order to gain a major advantage on the eastern front in Ukraine. The Kyiv Post newspaper reported on November 14 that a commander of a Ukrainian artillery unit near Kurakhove said that the Russian army attacked the city from three directions, adding that Ukrainian forces were ready to retreat but had not received instructions from their superiors.
According to Ukrainian Major General Dmytro Marchenko, the eastern front is under pressure, with shortages of ammunition and manpower. “People are exhausted and cannot hold the front line,” he said. Several Ukrainian commanders and military experts agree that the lack of manpower, especially in the infantry, is Ukraine’s biggest challenge.

The coming months are considered a crucial period in the conflict in Ukraine, as winter approaches, along with the transition of power in the US - the leading military aid country to Kyiv - which is said to have many unpredictable developments. Ukrainian media reported that Kyiv authorities are planning to mobilize an additional 160,000 troops between November 2024 and February 2025 to consolidate manpower and enhance defense capabilities.
Russia's Su-57 stealth fighter difficult to 'take off' due to embargo?
Russia signs first export contract for Su-57 fighter jets
Defense Post reported on November 14 that Russia has signed its first export contract for the Su-57 fighter jet to a partner, although it did not disclose which party. The Su-57 is a 5th generation fighter jet, developed by Russia to become a counterweight to the US's F-22 and F-35 stealth fighters. Currently, Russia's 5th generation fighter jet model is also being introduced at an air show in China to attract international customers.
On November 14, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu said on November 14 that the Russian-made Su-57 5th generation fighter demonstrated outstanding effectiveness when it first operated in the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian Su-57 fighter jets appear at an air show in Zhuhai, China on November 14.
“A wonderful aircraft that performed impressively. Even in its first combat use, it performed extremely well,” Shoigu said, according to TASS.
The Ukrainian military said in September that Su-57s had participated in dozens of Russian airstrikes against Ukraine. In June, Kyiv claimed to have shot down a Su-57 parked at an airport deep inside Russian territory. Russia’s newest fighter jets are believed to have helped launch missile strikes from a distance, beyond the range of Ukrainian air defense systems.
Russia says ready to negotiate with Ukraine if Trump initiates
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations Office Gennady Gatilov said on November 14 that Moscow is ready to negotiate an end to the war with Ukraine if US President-elect Donald Trump initiates it, but stressed that any discussion must take into account the reality of Russia's situation.
Kremlin denies Putin phone call with Trump
“Trump promised to solve the Ukrainian crisis overnight. Okay, let him try. But we are realists, of course we understand that it will never happen. If he initiates or suggests something to start the political process, it will be very welcome,” Gatilov said, referring to Trump’s promise to end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours.
The Russian official added that any negotiations would need to be based on what he called “facts on the ground,” which Mr. Gatilov said showed Ukraine was at a disadvantage, while the Russian military was making advances on the Ukrainian battlefield. Kyiv has not commented on Mr. Gatilov’s statement.
A negotiation scenario is considered unlikely as Russia and Ukraine both maintain an uncompromising stance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stressed that Kyiv will not sit at the negotiating table until Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine and returns the Ukrainian territories under Moscow's control, while Russia wants Kyiv's army to withdraw from four regions, including Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
