The event brought together a large number of athletes from many countries such as South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand… along with the participation of traditional Vietnamese martial arts. This was an opportunity for athletes, experts, and martial arts enthusiasts to interact and learn from each other, especially to share their passion for martial arts and spread the core values of these disciplines.
Vovinam - Vietnamese martial arts participates in the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, shared: "We are proud that this event will contribute significantly to promoting the image of Vietnamese martial arts to the world, while also fostering cultural exchange, connecting different martial arts traditions, and raising awareness of the traditional values of martial arts in the modern context. The Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival is not simply a sporting event, but also a space to share a passion for martial arts and explore the diverse cultures of various countries."
The Organizing Committee of the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival introduces the highlights of the event.
Mr. Ly Dai Nghia, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Training and Competition Center, said that most martial arts disciplines, when included in the Olympic or ASIAD competitions, have been simplified in terms of technique, thus failing to fully showcase their essence. The Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival is a place where martial arts disciplines can fully display their value.
Athletes from martial arts disciplines such as vovinam, traditional Vietnamese martial arts, taekwondo, karatedo, judo, aikido, kendo, wrestling, pencak silat, wushu, arnis, muaythai, taekyon, hapkido, kumdo, traditional wrestling, tarung derajat, muay boran... along with lion dance will participate in performances at the opening ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival 2024 on December 21st, as well as in exchange and performance programs on December 22nd and 23rd.
Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival 2024 is jointly organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City and the World Martial Arts Union (WoMAU).
The event also included a scientific seminar on martial arts held on December 20th at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City (UEF), bringing together experts and scholars from many countries to discuss the role of martial arts in social development, cultural preservation, and application in modern life; and a martial arts exhibition on Le Loi Street, showcasing the development journey and unique characteristics of Vietnamese martial arts and international martial arts...
