The Ghost platform is popular with criminal organizations for its advanced security features, and its takedown marks a major blow to global criminal networks. "This was a global cat-and-mouse game, and today that game has come to an end," said Jean-Philippe Lecouffe, Europol's deputy executive director.
The operation prevented multiple threats to life, destroyed a drug lab in Australia, and seized weapons, drugs and more than €1 million ($1.11 million) in cash. "Today we have demonstrated that no matter how well hidden criminal networks are, they cannot escape our collective efforts," said Catherine De Bolle, Europol's executive director.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with authorities from Australia, Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United States, as part of a shared commitment to combating global organised crime. The investigation is expected to continue and may disrupt further illegal activities.
