On October 19, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte said he was discussing increased military support for Ukraine with the Defense Ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) developed industrialized countries at a conference held in Naples, southern Italy.
Speaking on X, Mr Rutte wrote: "It is a pleasure to be in Naples with the G7 Defence Ministers to see what more we can do to support Ukraine, strengthen defence industry production and promote cooperation with partners."
Russia has repeatedly stated that supplying weapons to Ukraine hinders the resolution of the conflict and directly draws NATO countries into the conflict. Senior Russian military officials have warned that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would be considered a legitimate Russian target.
On the same day, also at the Conference, the G7 Defense Ministers called on Iran to stop supporting the Palestinian Hamas group, as well as its allies Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthi in Yemen.
In a joint statement after the meeting held in the southern Italian city of Naples, G7 ministers called on Iran to stop supporting Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis, and to avoid any action that could destabilize the region or lead to uncontrollable escalation.
In addition to the G7 defense ministers, representatives from the European Union, NATO and the Ukrainian defense minister took part in the discussions in Naples.
