The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has deployed one of its longest-range radars - the LTR-25 - in Romania, a country that borders Ukraine to the north.

NATO's official website reported that the Deployed Air Command and Control Center (DACCC) has relocated the LANZA LTR-25 radar from Italy to the Romanian border town of Cataloi.
This radar, capable of detecting targets at a range of up to 450 km, has been actively operational, providing NATO with the ability to track targets both at sea and in the air.
“This deployment must be viewed as defensive in nature and necessary to further enhance our ability to defend our host nation, Romania, and our ally,” said Major General Denny Traas, DACCC commander.
“Our top priority is to contribute to NATO’s efforts to build a strong and capable military posture to deter attacks on the organization and to be ready to defend when deterrence fails,” he said.
The Avia Pro military portal believes that NATO's move is clearly aimed at increasing the military presence of this transatlantic alliance near Russia's borders.
The radar is of particular importance in the context of Western plans to soon introduce F-16 fighter jets into service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU).
Modern radars will significantly simplify the task of guiding these aircraft to important targets, including the Crimean Peninsula and the Kherson region, which could change the balance of power in the region. Russian experts note that the deployment of the LTR-25 is just the tip of the iceberg.
Along Russia's Black Sea coast, NATO has long accumulated a significant amount of military equipment, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), aircraft and satellites, along with new radars, significantly enhancing the alliance's reconnaissance and combat capabilities.
The LTR-25 radar is capable of performing a wide range of missions, from monitoring maritime movements to guiding missiles and directing air strikes against ground targets.
