Ca Mau is not far away
Despite many challenges, Ca Mau tourism is facing the opportunity to become a locality with a spearhead economy from tourism. Many years ago, Ca Mau had the most dense river system in the country, so investment in traffic development was always difficult for a long time.
It used to take a whole day and night to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Ca Mau. However, it now only takes 5-6 hours by car. In the near future, this distance will be shortened even more when the highway connecting to Ca Mau is completed, creating a significant boost for tourism in this province.
At the end of 2023, when working with Ca Mau, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: “During this term, we must open the expressway from the North to the South to Ca Mau and continue to build the expressway all the way to Ca Mau Cape, instead of just to Ca Mau City as currently planned. We must build a runway so that large aircraft can land at Ca Mau Airport as soon as possible. When there are more passengers, the terminal will be expanded.”
Accordingly, the Prime Minister has approved the recommendations to support Ca Mau in shortening the distance with major centers of the country, creating conditions to remove difficulties for the province: Extending the North - South expressway to Ca Mau Cape; considering and implementing investment in building Ca Mau Airport to meet 4C standards according to the planning. Thus, the extension of Ca Mau Airport by 2.5 km towards Tan Thanh will be a big boost for the development of Ca Mau's urban - tourism.
In addition, the province identifies key tasks as sustainable development of the marine economy associated with effective exploitation of Hon Khoai General Seaport and Nam Can Economic Zone; investing in completing a synchronous and modern infrastructure system, focusing on transport infrastructure (highways, coastal roads, seaports, airports), urban infrastructure, economic zone infrastructure, industrial parks, and tourism infrastructure. Forming and developing 2 economic corridors in the North-South direction (Ca Mau City - Cai Nuoc - Nam Can - Dat Mui) and East-West direction (Tan Thuan - Song Doc) on the basis of connecting highways, coastal roads, airports, seaports and 5 growth poles (Ca Mau City, Nam Can, Song Doc, Tan Thuan, Dat Mui).
From the above foundations, it can be seen that Ca Mau has been developing transportation, its geographical location has been shortened, creating favorable conditions for connecting Vietnam and world tourism.
Policy push
In 2023, the Provincial People's Council agreed to issue a resolution approving the master plan for the construction of the Mui Ca Mau National Tourist Area by 2030, with a vision to 2050. Previously, the Prime Minister approved the Master Plan for the development of the Mui Ca Mau National Tourist Area, Ca Mau province by 2030. In the long-term strategic vision plan, Ca Mau aims to promote its own advantages and characteristics, paying special attention to the direction of connecting Mui Ca Mau with the areas of Hon Khoai, Phu Quoc, Con Dao... to promote the marine economy and marine tourism.
Mr. Huynh Quoc Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province affirmed: "The province is committed to always opening its doors to welcome domestic and foreign investors and always accompanying the development of investors and enterprises. Investors and enterprises will be given the most favorable conditions to successfully implement projects and develop sustainably in the coming time in accordance with regulations."
In line with these policies, key tourism projects of Ca Mau are in the stage of calling for strategic investors. Among them, many large projects have high expectations such as: Thi Tuong Lagoon Tourism Area; U Minh Ha National Park tourism; Hon Khoai tourism, Hon Da Bac tourism... These are all prime tourism resources of Ca Mau, if invested and exploited properly, they will bring about a huge tourism growth effect.
Shape your own path
According to experts, Ca Mau tourism is currently not properly evaluated for exploitation and promotion to promote growth. From the perspective of a tourism organizer, Mr. Tran Van Thao, Director of Vietravel Ca Mau Company, said: "With the planning and strategic orientation of socio-economic development, including tourism by region - axis, sub-region, associated with outstanding and distinct strengths, Ca Mau tourism will make great strides with continuous growth in the number of visitors and tourism revenue. At that time, the interest and social resources for tourism will increase exponentially, which is a completely predictable effect." According to Master Phan Dinh Hue, a tourism expert in the Mekong Delta, Ca Mau tourism should focus on agricultural and ecological tourism but at a higher level, meeting more diverse needs of tourists.
Mr. Tran Hieu Hung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism informed: “Ca Mau has been proactively responding and building tourism products that adapt to climate change to develop tourism, especially developing eco-tourism products, community tourism, agricultural tourism associated with the New Rural Development Program, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program in the direction of developing green tourism on the basis of clean agricultural products and developing clean agriculture to serve and develop green tourism. In addition, making Ca Mau cuisine a unique and characteristic tourism product, attracting more tourists to the locality.”
Speaking to Kinh te va Do thi newspaper, Mr. Tran Hieu Hung said: “Towards the goal of developing green and sustainable tourism, while maximizing the potential and advantages of a province in the southernmost part of the country, the province prioritizes the development of eco-tourism based on building tourism products from agriculture, linking the exploitation, protection and development of resources with tourism activities such as: Mui Ca Mau forest tourism route, Dat Mui Cultural Tourism Village, exploiting the experience product of the freshwater mangrove ecosystem belonging to the U Minh Ha National Park system, experiencing Thi Tuong lagoon...”
