Coming from a family with a tradition of growing grapes, she realized that her family's land was increasingly contaminated with alum, causing the quality of the grapevines to not grow as expected, with low productivity and poor fruit quality, often being forced down by traders during the harvest season. In 2015, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi studied and researched ways to improve the soil, grow grapes in an organic and safe way, determined to enhance the value of traditional local grape varieties. After many experiments, with the guidance of experts from the Southern Agricultural Research Institute, Ms. Tuong Vi invested in planting more than 1.5 hectares of NH01-48 green grape varieties on a purely organic basis of burnt rice husks. The model uses burnt rice husks combined with phosphate fertilizers and some types of organic microbial fertilizers to fertilize the soil. After 9 years of diligent experimentation, the soil was restored and provided high nutrition, the grapevines grew and developed well. Now, the NH01-48 green grape variety of the “2 Tuong” brand of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi is increasingly popular with consumers. Ms. Vi shared: After 5 years of testing on burnt rice husks, the alum-contaminated soil has been restored and has good nutritional quality and is safe; the green grape product when harvested has many differences such as when ripe, it is sweeter, crunchy and refreshing as desired.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi shares the model of growing green grapes NH01-48 on a purely organic basis of burnt rice husks.
Implementing the grape growing model on a purely organic basis of rice husks, each harvest, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi's farm achieves a yield of about 20 tons/ha, the quality of the grapes is superior to the same type of green grapes grown by traditional methods: large fruit, beautiful color, high crispness and sweetness, the selling price at the garden is about 130,000 VND/kg, 3 times higher than the same type of grapes grown by traditional methods. Ms. Mai Thi Truc Ly in Ho Chi Minh City said: My unit specializes in providing clean agricultural products to the domestic and international markets. Working with the 2 Tuong grape farm, I find that the quality of the grapes is delicious, crispy and especially safe for my customers because the farm is grown in an organic direction. Therefore, although the price of fresh grapes from the farm is quite high, my customers still accept and really like the fresh grapes from this 2 Tuong grape farm.
In the face of climate change and increasing consumer demands, clean agricultural products are the target of the province's agricultural sector to improve the quality and value of products, especially local specialty products. The successful implementation of the NH01-48 green grape growing model on the organic basis of burnt rice husks by Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi is an opportunity for grape growers in the province to apply and implement on many new grape varieties to diversify clean grape products, increasing the value of Ninh Thuan grape products on the market.
