In 2025, the overarching task for the country's foreign affairs is to further promote the pioneering and important role in creating and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment while firmly protecting independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. At the same time, mobilizing external resources will contribute to creating momentum for the country to accelerate, break through, and firmly enter a new era - the era of national development.

On the morning of January 6, a conference was held in Hanoi to review the work of the Foreign Affairs sector in 2024 and outline key directions and tasks for 2025. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and directed the conference. Localities and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad participated online.

In 2024, the world will continue to undergo profound changes, with many new and complex developments. In that context, foreign affairs have been implemented synchronously and effectively, with many vibrant activities, achieving many positive results.

During the year, the State leaders conducted 59 foreign affairs activities, including 21 visits to foreign countries and participation in multilateral conferences; welcomed 25 delegations of foreign leaders to Vietnam. Vietnam also promoted the implementation of international agreements and commitments, concretized upgraded relationship frameworks, and signed more than 170 new cooperation agreements in many fields, especially in areas where we have needs and interests.
“Foreign affairs are increasingly being raised to a higher level, strongly promoting the pioneering role, creating increasingly high consensus and achieving many new developments in all foreign affairs fields,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed.
Notably, economic diplomacy and foreign economic relations under the close and drastic direction of the Prime Minister have made strong changes in many areas such as trade, investment, digital transformation, green transformation, semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence, etc., making important contributions to helping Vietnam maintain its position in the group of high-growth countries, being a bright spot in trade and attracting foreign investment in the context of many fluctuations in the world.
In 2024, import-export turnover is expected to reach a new record of more than 800 billion USD; Vietnam continues to be one of the largest FDI recipients in the world; welcoming more than 15.8 million international tourists in the first 11 months of the year, an increase of 44% over the same period in 2023. This is a signal that Vietnam continues to be an increasingly attractive destination for foreign partners, investors and tourists. |
To successfully carry out the diplomatic mission in 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son requested the Foreign Affairs sector to focus on implementing a number of key directions and tasks such as: Grasping and correctly forecasting the situation, being sensitive to detecting new issues and new trends, accurately identifying opportunities to always maintain strategic initiative in the face of rapid and complicated developments of the situation; handling well the complicated foreign affairs situations that arise, especially focusing on comprehensive, long-term and in-depth research on foreign affairs to proactively advise, update, supplement and perfect foreign affairs guidelines and policies; synchronously deploying and raising the level of foreign affairs work, including Party foreign affairs, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy, bilateral and multilateral foreign affairs; promoting political diplomacy, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, foreign information, work with overseas Vietnamese, and citizen protection.

Speaking at the Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that in 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must have a firm grasp of the domestic and foreign situation, have flexible, timely, effective responses, correct and accurate analysis, and accurate advice so as not to let the Party and State be passive or surprised in foreign affairs towards partners and localities; build a team of cadres who are proficient in their profession, have national pride, great ambitions, are politically astute, economically sensitive, and have a deep understanding of science and technology.
Regarding exports, it is necessary to diversify markets, products, and supply chains to make a breakthrough in difficult conditions. Diplomatic activities must contribute to promoting new productive forces such as Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), AI, Blockchain, cloud computing, biomedicine, new materials, quantum science, new energy, clean energy, cultural and entertainment industries in the new context.
The Prime Minister also requested to complete the stabilization of the organization, build a streamlined, effective and efficient apparatus to consolidate, strengthen and further promote the three pillars of diplomacy: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and People's diplomacy. It is necessary to develop and implement the Project to restructure and improve the quality of the contingent of civil servants and public employees in the diplomatic sector; at the same time, consolidate and enhance the material potential of the sector both domestically and internationally; mobilize maximum resources to contribute to creating momentum for the country to accelerate, break through, and firmly enter the new era - the era of national development.
After the online conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Thi spoke and directed all levels and sectors of Thanh Hoa province to continue to closely follow the country's diplomatic policy; thereby, focusing on integrating many synchronous solutions, smoothly combining Party diplomacy, government diplomacy and people's diplomacy in foreign affairs, building comprehensive and modern diplomatic activities of Thanh Hoa province.

In Thanh Hoa, in 2024, there were 562 delegations of officials going abroad; including 10 delegations of provincial leaders. Provincial agencies welcomed 197 international delegations to visit and work with state agencies. The delegations mainly worked on implementing international cooperation contents and agreements, promoting cooperation opportunities, and promoting socio-economic development. Thanh Hoa province has proactively and actively exchanged and negotiated with new partners to promote the signing of international agreements, making an important contribution to the implementation of the Party and State's foreign policies and guidelines; organized delegations to strengthen the friendly and cooperative relations between Thanh Hoa province and localities around the world, and at the same time, sought the support of partners to serve the common development of the province. During the year, agencies, units and localities of Thanh Hoa province signed 4 international agreements and are expected to sign 9 agreements in 2025, in the fields of: Local international cooperation, investment, labor cooperation; information and communication... Up to now, the province has 173 valid FDI projects, with a total registered investment capital of about 15.02 billion USD. The total export value reached nearly 6.3 billion USD, exceeding the plan by 4.9%. Export activities continue to be the driving force for industrial production growth with key export items such as: garments, footwear, wood chips, seafood, cement, steel, tobacco... having high export turnover compared to the same period. Currently, the whole province has 304 enterprises exporting to 68 markets with 55 types of goods. The structure of export goods has gradually improved towards deep processing and value addition. |
