Hot weather continues in July, night temperatures remain high

VietNamNetVietNamNet03/07/2023

Speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that from June 29 to now (July 2), in the North and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, there has been widespread heat, caused by the influence of the low pressure area in the West combined with the foehn effect.

"The characteristic of this heat wave is that the heat lasts for a long time, the daytime temperature is not too high, but the nighttime temperature remains high, so the feeling of heat during this wave is more uncomfortable," Mr. Nguyen Van Huong informed.

During the heat wave, the highest temperature in the Northern region is commonly 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places over 38 degrees Celsius; the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, Hoa Binh and the Northern Delta has a common temperature of 36-39 degrees Celsius, especially in mountainous areas, some places are especially harsh with temperatures over 39 degrees Celsius.

During the period from now until the end of July and early August 2023, there is still a possibility of widespread and severe heat waves in the northern provinces.

“Prolonged heat means little rain, and without additional rainwater, hydroelectric reservoirs in the North and Central provinces will likely face a prolonged water shortage,” said Mr. Huong.

According to Mr. Huong, people in hot areas should be on guard against the risk of explosions and fires due to increased electricity demand and the risk of forest fires.

In addition, people should not work outdoors for long periods of time because the heat can cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke. In hot weather conditions, the UV index increases, causing harm to the human body when exposed directly to sunlight.

People should note that the predicted temperature in the heat bulletins and the actual temperature felt outdoors can differ by 2-4 degrees Celsius, and can even be higher in special conditions such as concrete surfaces and asphalt roads.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from July 3 to 11, in the Northern region, there will be showers and thunderstorms in some places in the late afternoon and at night, especially in mountainous areas, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms at night, locally heavy to very heavy rain; hot during the day, with some places experiencing intense heat.

In the late afternoon and at night, the Central region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, while the South Central region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms; during the day, it will be hot and extremely hot, with some places experiencing particularly intense heat.

In the Central Highlands and the South, there will be showers and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and at night, with some areas having moderate to heavy rain; intermittent sunshine during the day.

This is the longest heat wave in the North since the beginning of this summer. During this heat wave, temperatures in Hanoi range from 29 to 39 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperature forecast to be 39 degrees Celsius on July 7.
