In recent years, the socio-economic situation of Sin Ho district has improved, and people in remote areas have had more complete access to information, communication, medical services, and health care. However, the risk of food poisoning, especially food of natural origin (wild mushrooms, wild vegetables, mold on agricultural products, etc.) is always present.

In Sin Ho district, food poisoning is always a matter of special concern to authorities and the health sector. Because a part of the population still maintains a lifestyle and eating habits using foods of natural origin, which can easily lead to the risk of food safety and hygiene (FSH). Since the beginning of the year, there have been 2 cases of food poisoning in households in the district due to the use of unsanitary food. Fortunately, they were taken to medical facilities for emergency treatment and timely treatment, without much impact on their health.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Trung Quyen - Deputy Director of the District Health Center said: "The situation of food poisoning in the locality is complicated, requiring proactive intervention from authorities at all levels. The Center has stepped up propaganda and warned people about the risk of natural food poisoning as well as the use of unsafe industrial foods. Along with that, coordinating with district and commune mass organizations to regularly monitor and handle the constant risk of food poisoning."
It is known that, in order to raise awareness and minimize the risk of food poisoning, especially in remote areas, the District Health Center directly and jointly organizes many communication sessions in communes and villages on knowledge of ensuring food safety and hygiene. The content of the communication is concise, simple and easy to understand. In addition, the local government has also coordinated with grassroots health stations to inspect, monitor, and diversify communication forms to raise awareness and perception for people in choosing and using safe food.

The interdisciplinary inspection team on food safety and hygiene inspected a business establishment in Lung Thang commune.

Having suffered food poisoning in March 2021, Mr. Lu A Vang in Hang Lia 1 village (Ta Ngao commune) still remembers the horrifying pain. Mr. Vang shared: “In the moment of life and death, I realized the serious consequences of using food of unknown origin. Although I have propagated and mobilized people from the incident I myself encountered, I still feel that I really need to be equipped with more necessary knowledge to better protect my health and that of my family.”
Currently, there are more than 450 food production, processing and trading establishments in the district. These include collective kitchens at schools, medical centers, food establishments, hotels and 3 traditional markets. In addition, there are about 20 small street food businesses. Most of the establishments operate according to manual production methods, posing a potential risk of food poisoning.
From 2022 to present, specialized agencies of Sin Ho district have conducted 192 inspections of food service establishments. Thereby, 40 establishments were found to be in violation; 24 establishments had to destroy their products; the amount of destroyed goods was worth 6.3 million VND... In addition, strengthening coordination with Party committees and authorities of communes, towns, villages, and residential groups to propagate and guide people to choose safe food, especially food of natural origin.
Raising awareness and self-protection of health and ensuring food safety of people is the key to reducing the risk of poisoning. Therefore, in the coming time, Sin Ho district will strengthen the direction of communes and towns to continue promoting propaganda work, raising people's awareness of preventing and combating food poisoning. Strictly manage food production and service establishments in the area. Timely detect and strictly handle violations. Contribute to protecting health, improving the quality of life for people as well as the sustainable development of Sin Ho mountainous district.
