Enhancing the role of the press in promoting the efficient use of energy for sustainable development

In order to promote and enhance the role of the press in propaganda work, contributing to the sustainable development of the country, on August 30, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Journalists Association organized the Forum "Improving propaganda on efficient use of energy for sustainable development".

The forum aims to respond to the energy saving campaign, towards the successful implementation of the Government's National Target Program on economical and efficient energy use.

This is a meaningful activity, contributing to raising awareness of the role, responsibility and benefits of people and businesses in using energy efficiently. At the same time, it is an opportunity for representatives of press agencies, managers, businesses and economic experts to exchange and discuss the current situation and potential for energy sector development, energy-saving technology models, creative and effective propaganda strategies for the development of Vietnam's energy sector in the coming time.

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi affirmed that energy plays an important role in economic growth and environmental protection. Using energy economically and efficiently has been considered one of the important pillars to ensure energy security as well as help the energy sector develop sustainably.

In recent times, with its role and position, the press has made many contributions to the development of the energy sector through accurate, timely and effective reflection of the following contents: propaganda, organization of implementation of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on economical and efficient use of energy; highlighting examples of collectives and individuals who have well implemented this policy, criticizing wasteful manifestations.

According to the Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, there have been many press works focusing on raising public awareness about using energy economically and efficiently; reducing energy consumption in industries and economic sectors; encouraging energy saving to become a regular activity for key energy-using establishments and key economic sectors that consume a lot of energy, towards the goal of green growth and sustainable development.

The works have promptly reflected typical advanced examples, experiences, and effective methods in localities in applying energy-saving solutions; facilities, construction works, and research on energy-saving and efficient use.

Reporters nationwide, with many new topics, detailed highly creative energy saving issues and solutions, attracting readers, contributing to creating positive changes in the awareness of people, businesses, and state agencies in using and saving energy.

According to Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Thi Su, the current information and propaganda work is still seasonal. To improve the effectiveness, communication and information work on this topic needs to be regular and continuous. Press agencies need to maintain columns and topics, diversify content and innovate the form of information presentation for easy access by the public, thereby changing awareness and behavior among all classes of people and in the whole society, increasing the use of energy saving, efficiency and sustainable energy development.

To improve the effectiveness, communication and information work on the topic of effective energy saving and saving needs to be regular and continuous, Ms. Nguyen Thi Su proposed: "Press agencies need to create columns and topics, diversify content, innovate the form of information presentation for easy access by the public, thereby changing awareness and behavior among all classes of people and the whole society on this issue. At the Forum, representatives of press agencies, managers, businesses, and economic experts exchanged and discussed the current situation and development potential of the energy sector; energy-saving technology models; and creative and effective propaganda strategies for the development of Vietnam's energy sector in the coming time.
