Việt NamViệt Nam06/11/2024

Tan Son district has nearly 4,000 hectares of tea plantations, of which up to 90% are currently producing tea. Tea is one of the key crops identified for the district's economic development. In recent years, along with maintaining a stable tea cultivation area, Tan Son has always focused on improving quality and producing safe tea.

Improving the quality of tea products.

Members of the Bang Phuong tea production and processing cooperative in Thu Cuc commune, Tan Son district, inspect the development of tea plants after applying organic fertilizer.

As the first entity in Tan Son district to have its product recognized as achieving OCOP 4-star status, the Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative in Long Coc commune, Tan Son district, always prioritizes ensuring safe tea production standards such as VietGAP, RA, and HACCP. The Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative has been and is currently collaborating with 20 member households growing tea in the locality, covering an area of 37 hectares. The families supplying raw materials to the cooperative must commit to implementing safe production standards such as: not using herbicides, chemical pesticides, or growth stimulants when caring for tea plants, and are subject to the cooperative's supervision. In particular, to obtain clean, safe tea products that meet the increasingly high demands of the market, the cooperative strictly adheres to safe planting, care, and processing techniques, using fertilizers and biological products correctly, ensuring technical procedures, labor safety, and environmental hygiene.

Mr. Ha Van Chinh, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, shared: “From the very beginning, we chose a market approach that focused on product quality, planting and caring for tea plants according to VietGAP standards to ensure consumer health and safety. The cooperative links with many tea-producing households in the area, opening training courses on knowledge and skills in tea production and processing. With raw materials processed to ensure quantity and quality according to VietGAP standards, the volume of processed tea is increasing and the quality is improving, with the motto that safe and high-quality production is paramount.”

Not only the Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative but also most tea-growing households in Tan Son have changed their awareness of safe tea cultivation and care. The area of tea certified according to standards such as VietGAP, HACCP, ISO, RA... is expanding, reaching about 40% of the total tea area in the district. To facilitate processing and consumption, the district also encourages households to invest in building processing facilities and to form cooperatives. To date, the entire district has nearly 170 tea processing facilities with a processing capacity of about 15,000 tons/year, bringing in nearly 150 billion VND/year from tea cultivation.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Tan Son district, said: In recent years, tourism in Tan Son has developed increasingly, creating favorable conditions for promoting and introducing the local characteristic agricultural and forestry products, including tea. To build a brand and enhance the value of tea products, the District People's Committee has directed communes to plan concentrated tea growing areas, linked with tourism development. Specialized agencies coordinate with localities to open training courses on safe tea cultivation, care, and processing techniques. At the same time, conditions are created for cooperatives and cooperative groups to regularly participate in trade fairs and agricultural product fairs... to promote, introduce, and sell products.

To ensure stable and sustainable tea cultivation, Tan Son will continue to promote the application of advanced techniques in tea cultivation, harvesting, and processing; expand the area for safe, high-quality tea production; replicate production linkage models between businesses and farmers along the value chain through contract signing, production and consumption linkages, and simultaneously promote the search for and development of consumption channels, organize advertising, and trade promotion. Alongside this, efforts will be intensified to educate and encourage tea growers and businesses to improve the quality and value of tea products.
