Tan Son district has nearly 4,000 hectares of tea, of which 90% are currently being harvested. Tea is one of the crops identified as the key crop in the district's economic development. In recent years, along with maintaining a stable tea area, Tan Son has always focused on improving the quality and producing safe tea.
Members of the Bang Phuong tea production and processing cooperative in Thu Cuc commune, Tan Son district, check the growth of tea plants after using organic fertilizer.
As the first entity in Tan Son district to have products recognized as achieving 4-star OCOP, Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative, Long Coc Commune, Tan Son District always focuses on ensuring safe tea production standards such as VietGAP, RA, HACCP... Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative has been cooperating with 20 local tea growing households with an area of 37 hectares. Families that cooperate to sell raw materials to the Cooperative must commit to implementing safe production standards such as: Not using herbicides, not using chemical pesticides, not spraying growth stimulants... when caring for tea trees and being supervised by the cooperative. In particular, to have clean, safe tea products that meet the increasingly high demands of the market, the Cooperative always strictly adheres to the technical processes of planting, caring, and safe processing, using fertilizers and biological products according to the principles, ensuring technical processes, labor safety, and environmental sanitation.
Mr. Ha Van Chinh - Deputy Director of the Cooperative shared: “From the very beginning, we chose the market approach of focusing on product quality, planting and caring according to VietGAP standards to ensure the health and safety of consumers. The Cooperative cooperates with many tea producers in the area, opening training courses on knowledge and skills in tea production and processing. From the source of raw materials processed to ensure quantity and quality according to VietGAP standards, the output of processed tea is increasingly larger and of better quality with the motto of safe production, quality is the top priority”.
Not only Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative but also most tea growing households in Tan Son have changed their awareness of safe tea planting and care. The area of tea certified for safety according to standards such as VietGAP, HACCP, ISO, RA... is increasingly expanding, reaching about 40% of the district's tea area. To facilitate processing and consumption, the district also encourages households to invest in building processing facilities, linking to establish cooperatives and cooperatives. Up to now, the district has nearly 170 tea processing facilities with a processing capacity of about 15,000 tons/year, the value of tea trees reaching nearly 150 billion VND/year.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet - Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: In recent years, Tan Son tourism has been increasingly developing, creating favorable conditions for promoting and introducing local agricultural and forestry products, including tea products. In order to build a brand and increase the value of tea products, the District People's Committee has directed communes to plan concentrated tea growing areas, associated with tourism development. Specialized agencies coordinate with localities to open technical training courses on planting, caring for, and processing safe tea. At the same time, create conditions for cooperatives and cooperative groups to regularly participate in trade fairs, agricultural fairs, etc. to promote, introduce, and consume products.
In order for tea trees to develop stably and sustainably, in the coming time, Tan Son will continue to promote the application of technical advances in the process of caring for, harvesting and processing tea; expand the area of safe, high-quality tea production; replicate production linkage models between enterprises and farmers along the value chain through signing contracts, linking production and product consumption, while promoting the search and construction of consumption channels, organizing promotion and trade promotion. At the same time, promote propaganda and mobilize tea growers and enterprises to improve the quality and value of tea products.
