Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health, USA conducted a 30-year survey with more than 123,000 Americans.
They found that women who followed these five habits after the age of 50 lived 14 years longer than the other group of women; men who adopted these habits lived 12.2 years longer.
No smoking
According to the US CDC, not smoking has benefits including:
- Improve health and enhance quality of life.
- Reduces the risk of premature death and can extend life expectancy by 10 years.
- Reduces the risk of many adverse health outcomes, including poor reproductive health outcomes, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cancer.
- Benefits people who have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease or COPD.
- Beneficial for the health of pregnant women and fetuses.
- Reduce the financial burden on smokers, the health care system and society.
Eat healthy
A balanced and healthy diet is beneficial for longevity. You should regularly eat lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, beans and eat less red meat, pickles...
When eating, pay attention to balanced and comprehensive nutrition, exercise regularly, ensure enough sleep and have a reasonable lifestyle, positive and optimistic attitude.
Control weight within ideal range
A healthy body mass index (BMI) should be between 18.5 and 24.9. However, this does not apply to people with muscular bodies (e.g. athletes, bodybuilders), pregnant women, the elderly, and people who have lost muscle mass.
Drink less alcohol
Try to quit drinking or drink less, no more than 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks for men.
Exercise regularly
Exercising every day can also help improve immunity and promote longevity. Even if you can't fully implement these healthy living habits, you can still benefit.
