Want to be as talented as the anime main character
Having planned to study abroad a year ago, Vo Quang Tri, class 12A2, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (HCMC), impressed when he was admitted to 7 US universities at the same time in April 2023, including: Case Western Reserve University, Purdue University, Connecticut University, Arizona State University, Michigan State University, University of Illinois at Chicago and Drexel University.
Vo Quang Tri has just been admitted to 7 US universities with billions of dollars in scholarships.
Some schools have decided to award scholarships to male students, ranging from 60,000-160,000 USD (1.4-3.8 billion VND) for 4 years, with a total value of 13.3 billion VND. "This achievement is just a small grain of sand, the luckiest thing is that I was admitted to the desired major and school," Tri confided, adding that he chose to pursue information technology (data science) at Purdue University even though the school does not offer scholarships to international students.
Willing to try new fields and maintain his passion for a long time from academics, arts to sports, Tri admits that he is quite a "mixed" person when he knows how to debate, design, draw, play piano, play badminton... "I have been a 'hardcore fan' of anime (Japanese animation) since I was little, so I always pursue the image of multi-talented main characters, always trying to become more talented instead of faltering in the face of difficulties and challenges", the male student confided.

"Try something new" is also the motto Tri applies to himself and wants to spread to his peers. The Ho Chi Minh City student said that he must be bold enough to "break out of his shell" to have the opportunity to find the "pieces" that suit him, thereby building an impressive study abroad application. "I always try to limit wasting time like sitting around scrolling through Facebook so that I can regularly do small tasks to 'feed' my thinking," Tri added.
"Upgrade" yourself with piano
Among his personal passions, Tri considers playing the piano his favorite. Having been exposed to this instrument since 8th grade thanks to his parents' encouragement and then starting to learn on his own, the male student said that the piano keys not only give him the opportunity to create art through self-composed songs or perform at large and small events, but are also a useful "tool" to support his studies.
Quang Tri performed the organ at the coming of age celebration event in May 2023.
"Playing the guitar helps me relieve the pressure of studying, especially during exam season. The process of playing the guitar also teaches me how to listen and calmly observe. From listening to other sounds such as vocals, drums, bass... to play them in harmony, to later listening to each person's own voice to understand each other better, instead of 'releasing' negative emotions unconsciously. In the future, I also hope to be able to freely 'code' in the morning and play the guitar at night," the male student expressed.
The lesson from the piano was included in Tri's essay submitted to the schools, showing his own journey from an "unknown person" to the head of the art troupe in the coming-of-age gratitude program at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School. At the same time, Tri also expressed his hope to bring more "performance space" to the piano, turning this instrument into the main character on stage, not just playing a "background" role as usual.

"Essays often have a specific length, so you need to write as concisely as possible, avoiding rambling but not showing your own story. Another factor to pay attention to is the school's criteria. For example, schools with strong academics will not appreciate profiles that focus on extracurricular activities as much as schools with strong practical skills," the owner of billions of scholarships added.
Mr. Phan Le Anh Nhat, homeroom teacher of grades 10 and 12 and also the person who wrote the recommendation letter for Quang Tri, commented that the male student "has everything" in class and school activities. "Tri is always curious, exploring everything from the root until he truly understands the problem, whether it is with subjects or in club activities. On friends' birthdays, holidays or extracurricular activities, he often brings the organ to organize entertainment events to add to the fun," Mr. Nhat recalled.

Sharing his future plans, Tri said he will spend more time composing songs, while continuing to "indulge" himself in new activities, such as participating in music shows. The male student is also actively studying information technology and reviewing the AP program to "master" some knowledge before entering university.
