Male medical student has nights of crying because of sadness of not having parents

Dinh Cong Dinh (22 years old), was born and raised in Hoa Thanh district, Tay Ninh province. Dinh is currently a 5th year medical student, Faculty of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City National University.

Dinh lost his father at a young age and grew up with the love and hardship of his mother. His mother raised 5 children alone, Dinh was the youngest. His mother had a heart disease. In 2020, Dinh's mother passed away.

Outside of school hours, Dinh (red virtual) actively participates in extracurricular activities.

Dinh shared: “My mother is someone I love and share a lot with. When she passed away, I felt lost and sad. Even though the doctor had informed me about my mother’s condition, when I heard the news of her death, I was shocked and couldn’t believe it was true.”

Dinh's voice suddenly choked up, he was silent for a moment, then continued: "When I went to school and saw my friends being picked up and taken care of by their parents, I felt very sad. Many times I wished I could lean my head on my mother's shoulder to share the joy of studying, to be praised, comforted and loved by her like when she was alive. There were nights when I cried because of the sadness of not having my mother by my side."

After the mental shock of his mother's death, Dinh had a moment of depression, no longer having any hope or motivation to study. But thanks to the encouragement of his family, teachers and friends, Dinh got up and rose up.

“I try to study hard and live well because I want my parents to be at ease and not let down my teachers who have worried about me, taken care of me, supported me, and helped me in my life and studies. I still have many things to look forward to,” Dinh shared.

Realizing his family’s situation and his own disadvantages early on, Dinh built up a spirit of overcoming difficulties. “After school, I work as a tutor to earn extra income to buy tools and live,” Dinh said.

Mr. Vu Hai Quan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, awarded the title "5 Good Students" to Dinh Cong Dinh.

In studying, Dinh seriously set clear goals, maintained good grades, made progress, and constantly learned. Dinh actively participated in student movements. Dinh achieved many achievements and awards from the Central Youth Union, Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, Ho Chi Minh City Student Association, Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, etc.

Dinh wants to become a doctor in the future to serve his home province and take care of people’s health. With his confidence and efforts, Dinh is one of the outstanding students to receive the “Hope” scholarship sponsored by the late teacher Nguyen Thi Minh Khang.

Master Nguyen Thi Bao Anh, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the Faculty of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City National University, commented: “What impressed me most about Dinh is his determination to succeed and his ability to organize his time. Not as fortunate as his peers when both his father and mother passed away, Dinh did not give up but was steadfast and persistent in everything. As a student in the health sector, with a large amount of knowledge, Dinh also had to work nights at the hospital, but he still arranged time to teach extra classes and support students in extracurricular activities.”

Master Bao Anh found Dinh to be very proactive, full of ideas, and daring to think and act. Dinh also took in suggestions from his seniors to gain experience during the organization process and after each program.
