Le Nghia Hiep lost his father in 2011, when he was only 6 years old. Hiep's mother worked hard day and night to raise and educate her two children.

For the past 12 years, his mother has done all kinds of jobs, from sanding and painting for furniture stores to weaving fishing nets. Having to come into contact with many chemicals, Hiep’s mother’s health has been deteriorating, and her income has been affected.

Loving his mother, Hiep always tried to study hard. For 12 consecutive years, Hiep was an excellent student. Not having enough money to go to extra classes, he studied at home, diligently solving problems over and over again until he was proficient.

In grade 12, Hiep was given 2 million VND by his mother to register for a 1-year online university entrance exam preparation course. He studied both at school and online and always ranked first in the mock exams organized by the school.

In the 2023 high school graduation exam, this young man scored 28.7 points in block A00 (math, physics, chemistry), continuing to be the valedictorian of Phu Xuyen A High School, in the top 3 highest scores in Hanoi city and top 59 nationwide.

In addition, Hiep also participated in the thinking assessment test and achieved 77 points, ranking in the top 6% of the highest scores nationwide. With this achievement, he was admitted to the Faculty of Computer Engineering - one of the two most "valuable" faculties of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Packed up from Phu Xuyen district to Hanoi to study at university, the male student brought 300,000 VND that his mother gave him to spend for the whole week. Every weekend, Hiep took the bus home to visit his mother and tutored near his house. The tutoring money was enough to cover his other living expenses.

What Hiep worries about is that his mother’s health is getting worse, and his salary is getting less and less, only about 7 million VND/month, while Hiep’s tuition is currently 14 million VND/semester and is expected to increase next school year. However, he does not dare to teach much even though he has received some more offers.

I need to focus on studying with the goal of achieving a perfect GPA to get a scholarship for excellent students of the school.

Although he is studying computer engineering, Hiep still does not have a computer. He studies by using his phone to take pictures of the slides of his teachers' lectures in class, then goes home to review the theory thoroughly and goes to the school library to practice on the computer. When convenient, Hiep borrows a friend's computer.

Although it is difficult not having a computer to study, Hiep is still trying to manage and overcome it while not studying deeply in his major.

Growing up in a disadvantaged environment compared to his friends, lacking both money and his father's love, Hiep was still strong and confident. He said it was all thanks to his mother who always gave her children the best. His mother's determination and optimism became an example for Hiep to follow.

While in high school, Hiep was always trusted by his teachers and friends to be the class monitor. At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, among many excellent students, Hiep continued to be elected as the group leader in the school's Student Union. Becoming a leader, a guide of the collective is also Hiep's dream and future career goal.

Hiep has another dream, which is to have a good income to take care of his mother, sister and help poor students like him have the opportunity to pursue their studies and knowledge.
