Five localities leading in economic growth in the first quarter

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), in the first quarter, 43 localities had economic growth rates higher than the national growth rate, of which the five localities leading the country in growth were Bac Giang 13.82%; Hoa Binh 12.76%; Nam Dinh 11.86%; Da Nang 11.36% and Lai Chau 11.32%.

However, 20 localities had lower growth rates than the national average. Gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter increased by 6.93% over the same period last year.

Accordingly, the industrial sector is the main driving force contributing to the economic growth of Bac Giang province. Bac Giang province is considered the industrial pillar of the North, with the growth rate of added value of the industrial sector in the first quarter reaching 17.97%, the highest among the three regions.

With efforts to improve the investment environment, by March 31, Bac Giang had attracted about 641.2 million USD in investment capital, an increase of 2.7% over the same period.

After Bac Giang, Hoa Binh province is the locality with the second highest growth rate in the first quarter compared to the same period last year (12.76%). Besides the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors, industry and construction are the sectors that contribute greatly to the province's growth.

Along with that, investment capital in the first quarter of 2025 increased sharply compared to the same period last year (59.52%), many transport works and projects were simultaneously constructed according to schedule such as: Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway; Hoa Binh - Hanoi regional connecting road...

Also in the first quarter, Nam Dinh achieved an economic growth rate of 11.86%, ranking third in the country and first in the Red River Delta. Of which, the industrial and construction sector played the main role in driving growth (up 17.44%), contributing 7.31 percentage points to the overall growth.

In addition, attracting foreign investment is also an important factor promoting economic growth, with the total newly registered investment capital and adjusted capital increase for 11 FDI projects reaching 227 million USD.

For Da Nang, the first quarter economy had many positive highlights and achieved many outstanding results. The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 2.61%; the industry and construction sector continued to recover strongly and achieved an increase of 17.6%; the service sector maintained a good growth rate of 10.07%.

Tourism was a bright spot in the city's service sector, up 20% year-on-year.

Lai Chau is a province in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, with a high growth rate of 11.32% in the first quarter. To achieve a good growth rate, the province has focused on a number of key areas to promote economic development. This includes focusing on exploiting the potential of agriculture, forestry and fishery to achieve the growth target of this sector of about 5% in the 2021-2025 period.

It can be said that the localities leading the country in first quarter growth are also development models, regional linkage cores and pillars in the process of promoting national growth to achieve the target of 8% this year and double digits in the coming time.
