DNVN - By 2025, businesses in the Asia-Pacific region will move beyond the AI (artificial intelligence) testing phase to focus on evaluating project ROI, building a long-term growth platform with open source models, seamless integration and unified governance between AI solutions.

The report “APAC AI Outlook 2025” (APAC AI Outlook 2025), published by IBM on December 3 in Vietnam, shows that businesses in the region are making a strong shift from the AI testing phase to maximizing the impact of investments in this technology solution.

Accordingly, 54% of businesses expect AI to bring long-term benefits in aspects such as innovation and revenue growth. The key factor lies in developing AI solutions that are cost-optimized, flexibly using custom open source models, and seamless integration between multiple vendors.

The pursuit of short-term goals in the early stages of generative AI is being replaced by a deeper understanding of AI’s potential. At the same time, the focus is shifting from low-risk, non-core use cases to deploying AI in core business functions to gain competitive advantage and improve ROI.

Mr. Truong Nguyen Phat, General Director and Director of Technology of IBM Vietnam (3rd from right) talks with the press.

According to an IBM report conducted by Ecosystm, nearly 60% of businesses in the Asia-Pacific region surveyed predict that they will benefit from AI investments within the next two to five years, while only 11% of them expect to achieve profits within the first two years.

By 2025, the focus of AI investments by businesses in the Asia-Pacific region will be on improving customer experience (21%), automating internal business processes (18%), and managing customer lifecycles and automating sales (16%). However, to realize these goals, businesses must address key challenges, including data complexity (39%), high costs of deployment and solutions (36%), and limited use cases (35%).

"AI is a powerful force driving Vietnamese businesses towards innovation, global competitiveness and sustainable growth. By 2025, we expect businesses in Vietnam to embrace AI with a focus on human-centric innovation and productivity-enhancing strategies. This will include the use of flexible architecture, open source and effective management to seamlessly integrate AI to achieve measurable results. This transformation will pave the way for an era of technology application, where AI is seen as a true driver of sustainable growth and competitive advantage," said Mr. Truong Nguyen Phat, General Director and Chief Technology Officer of IBM Vietnam.

IBM also emphasized that there will be 5 strategic trends shaping the future of AI in the Asia-Pacific region, including:

AI revenue takes center stage: By 2025, businesses will take a more strategic approach to AI, prioritizing projects based on feasibility and business impact. The key challenge is to scale AI across use cases to maximize revenue opportunities and ROI.

Smaller, specialized open source models are becoming an effective alternative for many AI applications: Purpose-built models will become popular, including those for local languages, specific regional contexts, and simple computational tasks. “Rightsizing AI” models require less training data and reduce the carbon footprint of the large language models that currently dominate the AI conversation.

Enterprises deploy advanced tools to optimize visibility, system management, and seamless AI integration: Enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region will increasingly leverage open source AI models to drive innovation and improve efficiency. “Unified AI” solutions, combining AI with powerful orchestration tools, will simplify the management of these solutions, providing flexibility, cost-effectiveness, improved security, and seamless integration across different vendors.

AI Assistants Redefine the Future of Work: Businesses will increasingly build autonomous workflows powered by AI assistants to automate tasks, collaborate with human workers, and create value for the entire business. “AI assistants,” which combine AI and automation, have the potential to deliver significant improvements in operational efficiency, customer experience, and decision-making.

Human-centric innovation drives the next phase of AI evolution: While high-performance tools have been the primary focus of AI implementations, in the future, AI will be leveraged to enhance human experiences and capabilities. A human-centric approach to AI will be instrumental in helping employees enhance their roles, automate routine tasks, and discover new opportunities for creativity and innovation. By prioritizing the design of empathetic AI solutions, organizations can build customer relationships and strengthen brand loyalty.
