In 2024, Da Nang tourism is expected to exceed growth target

DNVN - Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association Cao Tri Dung said that in 2024, the city's tourism industry had made close forecasts but the results achieved were really positive, higher than expected.

Speaking to the press on the occasion of welcoming the first flight of Malaysia Airline from Kuala Lumpur landing at Da Nang International Airport on September 24, Dr. Cao Tri Dung - Chairman of Da Nang Tourism Association said that with this new route, there are now 4 direct flights from the capital of Malaysia to the Han River City every day (previously Vietjet Air and Batik Air operated 3 flights/day).

Mr. Cao Tri Dung answered the press interview on the occasion of welcoming the first flight of Malaysia Airlines landing at Da Nang International Airport.

“Malaysia Airlines has a very well-connected flight network, arguably the best in Southeast Asia, spanning across Asia, Europe, and Oceania with nearly 1,000 destinations in more than 170 countries and territories. This route not only connects Da Nang with the capital of Malaysia, but also effectively connects Da Nang with the Middle East, Europe, North America, Australia, other Southeast Asian countries, especially Indonesia – the fourth most populous market in the world,” said Dr. Cao Tri Dung.

According to him, this is very favorable for Da Nang tourism in the near future to exploit large markets, both very potential and very new. As for Malaysia, in 2024 it has risen to the Top 3 international tourist markets to Da Nang. Along with Korea, Taiwan, Thailand... Malaysia is becoming a large source of visitors and has a very good match with the destination products, infrastructure and services of Da Nang.

“Through the survey, we found that Da Nang tourism products are very attractive to Malaysian visitors. Not only Kuala Lumpur but also the market of nearly 35 million people in almost all localities of Malaysia are very interested in Da Nang. Malaysia Airlines opening a direct flight to Da Nang marks a bigger, deeper and more sustainable step forward for the city's tourism to attract visitors from Malaysia,” said Mr. Cao Tri Dung.

The Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association also said that in 2024, the city's tourism industry had made close forecasts but the results achieved were really positive, beyond expectations. Although there were difficulties due to some traditional markets being affected by global fluctuations, Da Nang tourism recorded a very strong increase in some new large markets such as India, Indonesia...

In 2024, Da Nang tourism will also record the return of the Japanese market and especially the markets of Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore... At the same time, Da Nang tourism will exploit the Australian and New Zealand markets well; the number of visitors from the European and American markets to Da Nang will also increase impressively.

“In 2024, Da Nang tourism is expected to surpass the peak in 2019, reaching 3.5 million international visitors (the first 7 months of 2024 have achieved the target set for the whole year of 2.5 million international visitors). Calculating the total domestic and international markets, it is expected that this year will reach approximately 10 million visitors (the target set for 2024 is 8.4 million visitors),” Mr. Cao Tri Dung informed.

According to him, this is a very optimistic number, but it also puts pressure on the destination of Da Nang in exploiting the market in 2025 and the following years to reach and exceed the level of 2024. To overcome that pressure, he said that Da Nang tourism needs to change its approach to the structure of tourist sources, and at the same time prepare products suitable for each identified market.

In addition, in the context of fundamentally changing tourist trends, Da Nang tourism needs to mobilize all resources for deep promotion activities in the markets. Especially focusing on promoting the destination brand rather than promoting each business individually.
