At a regular press conference on February 27 in Beijing, spokesman Wu Qian confirmed that preliminary planning and arrangements are being made for US-China military dialogue in the near future, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Mr. Ngo Khiem said that official information will be announced at a specific time and expressed hope that US-China military relations will have a good start and continue to develop in the coming time.

That was the answer of the Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman to the question of whether Beijing was concerned that the recent personnel change in the US military leadership could affect relations in this aspect between the two countries.

The last public contact between senior military officials from both sides was in September 2024, when commanders responsible for missions in the South China Sea spoke by phone.

In another development, a US-Russia meeting was held in Istanbul (Türkiye) on February 27 in an effort to restore bilateral relations.

AFP reported that the meeting was held at the residence of the US Consul General and followed high-level talks in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on February 18.

Neither side disclosed the specific names of the participants, but TASS said the Russian delegation included representatives of the foreign ministry.

The meeting in Istanbul aims to normalize the work of bilateral diplomatic missions, after the two countries announced the expulsion of each other's embassy officials under the administration of US President Joe Biden.
