Germany assesses US and NATO chances of stopping Oreshnik missile
The US and NATO have new-generation Patriot air defense missile systems, but they are unlikely to be able to successfully counter the “rain of warheads” on Russia’s Oreshnik missiles. This was stated by an expert, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the German Army Air Defense Unit, Jürgen Rose in an interview with RIA Novosti news agency.
The problem, according to Jürgen Rose, is that in the event of a future attack, not one or a few missiles can be fired with advance warning, but rather a few or more. The development of kinetic interceptors and missile defense programs by the US does not change the situation.

“Oreshnik missiles travel at ten times the speed of sound; it will be extremely difficult to intercept them, as the time to successfully defeat them is very short,” Mr. Jürgen Rose emphasized.
In addition, although the US has bases in Poland and Romania that can intercept missiles flying over Ukraine, the Oreshnik has other characteristics. It is a medium-range missile with a range of 500 to 5,500 km.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Oreshnik missile assembly line had been put into operation. Earlier, the Russian leader called the creation of the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile a historic event in the field of missiles and space. He stressed that no such weapon line had ever appeared.
US signs historic contract to buy F-35 aircraft
According to the military news agency Defense News, the US Department of Defense has ordered 145 F-35 fighter jets including many different versions for $11.7 billion from the US defense corporation Lockheed Martin.
According to information released by the Pentagon, Lockheed Martin has been “awarded a fixed-price, indefinite-term contract that cannot be exceeded.” The report said: “Under the previously awarded contract (N0001923C0003), the total value is up to $11,762,911,991.”
Earlier, US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said that the country has no plans to abandon the continued use of the fifth-generation F-35 fighter, despite criticism of it, especially from American businessman Elon Musk.

The fifth-generation stealth fighter F-35, manufactured by Lockheed Martin (USA), includes three versions: F-35A, F-35B, F-35C, which is considered a perfect combination of long-range weapons systems, modern sensors, stealth technology and satellite navigation systems, and is a "game-changing" fighter jet. The Pentagon advertises the F-35 as "the most lethal, support and survivable aircraft ever used." According to Defense One, the F-35 is the most expensive weapons program in the world, estimated at more than 2,000 billion USD.
Air & Space Forces Magazine reports that there are currently nearly 1,000 F-35s in service worldwide. To date, the countries operating or purchasing the F-35 are the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Israel, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Australia and Greece.
Russia: Pantsir system attracts interest from Southeast Asian countries in Hanoi
Russia's TASS news agency reported that Southeast Asian (SEA) countries are showing great interest in the Pantsir air defense system, designed to protect objects from large-scale attacks by drones.
“The whole world now sees how good Russian military equipment and weapons have proven themselves, that is, these are not empty words or advertising slogans, but real combat performance. And the new generation of the famous Pantsir system that we are introducing has received great attention from foreign partners,” the leader of the High-Precision Complex Company said on the sidelines of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 taking place in Hanoi.
Russia brought to Vietnam the Pantsir-SMD-E air defense missile system, which can detect and hit air targets at short and medium ranges. This complex is capable of carrying up to 48 short-range interceptor missiles or 12 standard guided air defense missiles.

Pantsir-SMD-E, designed by Tula KBP, part of Rostec Corporation, "shone" at the Army-2024 International Military-Technical Forum. What makes Pantsir-SMD-E different from its "seniors" in the Pantsir family is that this version does not have a 30 mm automatic cannon.
Instead, the Pantsir-SMD-E carries 48 short-range air defense missiles or 12 standard air defense missiles aimed at intercepting swarms of pesky unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs/drones), and can even tackle larger threats.
The system’s radar has been improved with the addition of a J- or Ka-band detection radar using active phased array radar technology that can detect small drones at a range of 5-7km and larger targets at a range of up to 10km. In addition, the radar system is capable of detecting targets with a radar cross section (RCS) of 1m2 at a maximum range of 45km.
In August, representatives of the Tula Instrument Design Bureau, which developed Pantsir, said that Pantsir-SMD-E is lightweight and therefore suitable for installation on the roofs of buildings.
