The US announced that it does not support extending the campaign in Lebanon, Israel hinted at the possibility of ending it early.

While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed that Washington does not support Israel's prolonged military campaign in Lebanon, the Israeli military leadership left open the possibility of a quick end to the conflict.

Israel has carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and deployed ground forces to areas around the border between the two countries.

The Lebanese government says the campaign has killed more than 2,500 people and displaced more than 1 million, leading to a humanitarian crisis.

Speaking in the Qatari capital Doha during his tour of the Middle East on October 24, Secretary of State Blinken stated that while Israel was conducting a campaign to eliminate threats to the country on its border with Lebanon, the US had made it clear that this conflict "cannot and should not lead to a prolonged military campaign."

Reuters news agency quoted Mr. Blinken as saying that the US government is considering a diplomatic agreement that would allow civilians on both sides of the border to return home.

In addition, the US Secretary of State also called on Israel to take measures to protect United Nations (UN) peacekeeping forces as well as armed forces in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi left open the possibility of a quick end to the conflict with Hezbollah, emphasizing that the Israeli army had significantly weakened Hezbollah's forces after expanding its ground offensive campaign against the movement's leaders.

Also on October 24, Lebanese media reported that Israel attacked the Choueifat area and another neighborhood in southern Beirut, about half an hour after Israel issued an evacuation order for the Hezbollah stronghold following heavy attacks on the night of October 23.
