The US military launched new airstrikes on Yemen's capital Sanaa on the night of March 17, after President Donald Trump ordered strong attacks against the Houthi movement in this Middle Eastern country.

The new attacks targeted an area west of the capital Sanaa, specifically a military site and hilltop storage facilities controlled by the Houthi group, Xinhua news agency reported. There were no immediate reports of casualties in the incident.

On the same day, President Trump announced that he would hold Iran directly responsible for any future attacks by the Houthi forces, in the context of the group resuming military activities in the Red Sea.

"From now on, every shot fired by the Houthis will be viewed as fired by Iranian weapons and at the direction of Iran, and Tehran will be held accountable and suffer the consequences," Mr. Trump affirmed in a post on the social network Truth Social.

The US leader also stressed that any further attacks or retaliation by the Houthis would be met with a strong response, while accusing Iran of "playing the role of innocent victim" in the conflict.

The statement was made after the US military conducted its first airstrike in Yemen since Trump took office on March 16, killing more than 50 people and injuring nearly 100 others.

Shortly afterwards, the Houthis retaliated by attacking a US aircraft carrier and organizing protests with the participation of thousands of people in areas controlled by this force in Yemen.

Protesters gathered in large numbers in the capital Sanaa and the cities of Saada, Dhamar, Hodeida and Amran, holding banners, rifles and chanting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans.

In that context, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani called for easing tensions and dialogue, noting that this is the most effective way to resolve crises in a sensitive and important region like the Middle East.

Al-Sudani made the statement during a phone call with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. For his part, Hegseth noted that Washington would continue airstrikes if the Houthis did not stop attacks on US forces and stop actions that disrupt navigation in the Red Sea.
