On December 4, 1999, My Son Temple Complex was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage. With a spirit of community responsibility, financial, human and technological support from local authorities, domestic and international organizations and governments have actively contributed to the sustainable preservation and conservation of My Son heritage.
Over the past 25 years, many development programs, plans, and goals have been outlined; scientific research, restoration, and archaeology have been conducted synchronously based on international cooperation programs, bringing about extremely important results, especially in the conservation and restoration of relics, becoming a model for Cham architectural restoration throughout the country.
In addition, some traditional Cham cultural values have also been restored and preserved, contributing to spreading local intangible cultural values to tourists. In particular, 1,158 hectares of natural forests and flora and fauna have been effectively restored and preserved, helping the cultural space of My Son Heritage Site become greener and more beautiful.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet - Director of the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board, from the early days of My Son being named a World Cultural Heritage, the unit has determined that conservation must be given top priority. Conservation must not conflict with promotion, effective conservation and active promotion so that the relic is preserved in its original state, ensuring the most authenticity on the basis of conservation principles according to the Convention, the United Nations Charter and the Law on Cultural Heritage of Vietnam.
Through supporting resources, the heritage site's infrastructure is invested; the My Son brand is increasingly spreading, the number of visitors is constantly increasing, with an average growth rate of more than 10%/year.
“From a deserted land, a relic that was forgotten for a long time due to the destruction of bombs and war, after 25 years My Son has awakened, becoming a bright spot in the restoration, embellishment and tourist attraction work. The value of My Son is increasingly important in the political, economic and social life of Duy Xuyen district, and is the pride of the people,” Mr. Khiet affirmed.
Attending the celebration program, Mr. Steven Wolstenholme - General Director of Hoiana Resort shared that the achievements and results that My Son Temple Complex has achieved after 25 years of becoming a World Cultural Heritage are very worthy and proud. He believes that the Quang Nam tourism brand is becoming more and more famous both domestically and internationally, the important factor that makes up that brand is culture, and My Son is an inseparable factor.
According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu, in order to develop more strongly, My Son must have specific actions and roadmaps in the coming time. In particular, it is necessary to link and cooperate with domestic world cultural heritages and tourism businesses to effectively promote the value of the heritage, because My Son has full advantages and opportunities to realize this goal. At the same time, create conditions for people around the heritage to benefit more.
“The Provincial People's Committee is committed to accompanying My Son, making My Son more brilliant, not only welcoming more visitors but also effectively promoting tangible and intangible cultural values in Duy Xuyen land” - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu emphasized.
On the occasion of the voter contact event in Duy Xuyen district, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai took the time to attend and speak at the commemorative program. According to comrade Nguyen Duc Hai, after 25 years of being honored by UNESCO, My Son Temple Complex has attracted the attention of many tourists, cultural researchers, and international organizations. Hoi An and My Son have created two colors for the world heritage, attracting tourists to Quang Nam.
“If Hoi An is an ancient city, a living city with typical cultural products of the community that leave an impression on visitors, then My Son Temple Complex contains unique values, especially in the historical process, evoking admiration and concern in visitors.
This is also what the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Nam, Duy Xuyen district, My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board, friends, international experts, and cultural workers are concerned about, how to cherish, preserve and promote the value of this heritage better and better" - said comrade Nguyen Duc Hai.
