According to AFP news agency, the White House said that Iran's ballistic missile attack on Israel "appears to have been defeated and ineffective", and praised US participation in repelling some of the attacks.
The White House also issued a statement saying that President Joe Biden had ordered the US military to “support Israel’s defense” and shoot down Iranian missiles on the same day. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were both closely monitoring Iran’s attack on Israel from the White House Situation Room.
Specifically, according to US officials, the country's destroyers joined the Israeli air force in fighting against Iran's ballistic missile attack.
Meanwhile, Reuters news agency quoted President Biden as saying that he had a meeting with Vice President Harris and the White House national security team to "discuss how Washington is prepared to help Israel defend itself against these attacks and protect US personnel in the region."
On the same day, October 1, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office said that London "fully condemns" Iran's missile attack.
Earlier, Sky News reported that Mr. Starmer had phone calls with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and King Abdullah of Jordan.
However, Mr. Starmer's office did not comment when asked by Reuters about these calls, but said that the British Prime Minister would have more calls with other European leaders on the evening of October 1.
French Prime Minister Michel Barnier also spoke out about Iran's attack, saying he was concerned about the "escalation" of conflict in the Middle East, warning that the situation was "extremely serious".
Meanwhile, Germany expressed concern that the escalation of the fighting could lead to a wider conflict. On social network X, the country's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called on "Iran to stop the attack immediately" because it "is leading the region towards the abyss".
For its part, the Islamic movement Hamas praised Iran's missile attack on Israel on the evening of October 1, saying it was revenge for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
