Reuters video shows Donald Trump wincing and ducking as he speaks to a crowd of supporters as he hears gunshots. Secret Service agents immediately swarm the stage, forming a circle around the former US President.
Mr. Donald Trump stood up, raised his hand to cover his right ear. Many images from American media agencies showed a lot of blood flowing from the former US President's right ear. Secret Service agents quickly escorted Mr. Donald Trump off the stage and into a car.
On social network X, a spokesperson for the US Secret Service said: "The Secret Service has taken protective measures and the former US President is safe. An investigation is ongoing and we will announce when we have new information."
The Washington Post in a post on social network X quoted Butler City prosecutor Richard Goldinger as saying that Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet. Meanwhile, one person present at the event was killed and the suspected shooter was also dead. Some sources said security forces took down the suspect.
Immediately after the incident, a series of US congressmen and politicians reacted. US House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the shooting and prayed for the safety of former President Donald Trump and everyone present at the event.
Many Republican Senators such as Marco Rubio, JD Vance, Tim Scott, former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and a series of US governors and politicians also condemned the incident.
In a separate statement, US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he was shocked to hear about the incident, stressing that political violence "has no place" in the US.
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries also condemned the shooting and said political violence would never be tolerated.
According to VNA in the US, sources at the scene said at least eight gunshots rang out as Mr. Trump began his speech to a crowd of supporters in Butler City, Pennsylvania.
A spokesman for the US Secret Service also confirmed that Mr. Donald Trump was injured, but his life was not in danger and he is now safe.
President Joe Biden pauses campaign communications
An official in US President Joe Biden's campaign team said that they will suspend presidential campaign communications activities and stop airing television advertisements as soon as possible.
In a statement, US President Joe Biden said he had been briefed on the shooting at a campaign event of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.
The US President added that he was glad to know that Mr. Donald Trump was safe, and that he was praying for Mr. Donald Trump and his family as well as those present at the event. The US leader declared that such violence cannot exist in the US.
Meanwhile, regarding the incident in Pennsylvania, some sources said that the shooting of former President Donald Trump is being investigated as an assassination.
