On October 31, the South Korean Foreign Ministry announced that the country, the United States and Japan held their first trilateral expert-level dialogue on ways to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian aid policy, following a summit of the three countries' leaders in August.
According to Yonhap, the two-day dialogue ended on October 30 in Honolulu, Hawaii, US, under the chairmanship of senior official of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Michele Sumilas; Director of the Development Cooperation Department of the Korean Foreign Ministry Won Do-yeon and Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Japanese Foreign Ministry Endo Kazuya.
During the dialogue, representatives discussed in depth measures to enhance coordination in development policy, including cooperation between the implementing agencies of the three countries. The three countries agreed to hold a humanitarian aid policy dialogue every two years. Korea will hold the next dialogue in Seoul in 2025.
