According to AFP , Mr. Hochstein met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri. Mr. Berri is an ally of the Hezbollah movement, tasked with negotiating on behalf of Hezbollah amid diplomatic efforts to end the war.

According to Special Envoy Hochstein, the US is studying a "formula" to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, and at the same time, it is clear that the two sides' commitment to comply with United Nations (UN) resolution 1701, which helped end the last round of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006, is not enough.

Resolution 1701 requires that no troops or weapons be kept in southern Lebanon, except for government forces.

"No one has done anything to fulfill the commitment. The lack of implementation of the commitment has contributed to the conflict that the region is witnessing today," the diplomat stressed.

Noting that the situation had spiraled out of control, Mr. Hochstein affirmed that the international community and the United States were "committed to rebuilding the country and its military and protecting Lebanon's nation and ports," and warned: "It is not in the interests of the Lebanese people to tie Lebanon's future to other conflicts."

Despite Washington's efforts, the conflict remains fierce as Israel and Hezbollah launch airstrikes against each other's targets.

On October 21, Israel carried out more airstrikes on Hezbollah's southern Beirut stronghold, including its first attack on the Ouzai district shortly after the Israeli military warned residents of some areas to evacuate.

Rescue workers said the evacuation order and Israeli air strikes caused panic among residents.

According to AFP , on the same day, an Israeli airstrike also targeted the important city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, killing 6 people, including 1 child.

In addition, according to Israeli Army Commander-in-Chief Herzi Halevi, the country's forces attacked more than 30 targets belonging to Al-Qard al-Hassan - a financial company accused of providing money to Hezbollah - in a widening campaign against the armed group.

During the strikes, the Israeli military said it hit a Hezbollah bunker containing tens of millions of dollars in cash and gold. The money was used to finance Hezbollah attacks on Israel, according to Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari.

In addition, Mr. Hagari also announced that an unnamed man who headed Hezbollah's Unit 4400, "responsible for transferring money" to the group through the sale of Iranian oil, was "eliminated" in Syria "a few hours ago."

According to him, Unit 4400 was previously commanded by Mohammed Jafar Ksir (also known as Sheikh Salah), but he was killed in an Israeli attack on the outskirts of the capital Beirut this month.

For its part, Hezbollah said that on October 21, the movement launched “quality missiles” at “the Glilot base of Military Intelligence Unit 8200 in the suburbs of Tel Aviv, Israel.”

According to the movement, the attack was “in defense of Lebanon,” “in response to Israeli military actions,” and dedicated to their assassinated leader Hassan Nasrallah.
