The arms aid package includes missiles for the Patriot air defense system, artillery shells, drones and laser-guided missile system ammunition.

In a statement, the Pentagon said the new weapons demonstrate "the US commitment to supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the short and long term" to help the country in its fight with Russia.
The US has provided a total of about $40.4 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the beginning of 2021, the bulk of which came after the conflict broke out on February 24, 2022.
Ukraine has been stockpiling weapons and training its military forces in recent months in preparation for a full-scale counteroffensive to retake Russian-occupied territories, mostly in southeastern and southern Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Ukraine's counteroffensive appeared to have begun, warning that the Ukrainian military had launched attacks on three key points along the front line.
