On May 25, announcing the strategy at an online event, US President Joe Biden stated: “The strategy sends a clear and powerful message: in America, evil will not prevail. Hatred will not prevail. The venom of anti-Semitism will not be the story of our time.”
Specifically, the strategy will include four main pillars: raising awareness and understanding of anti-Semitism; improving safety and security in Jewish communities; reversing the normalization of anti-Semitism and combating anti-Semitism; and building solidarity across communities.
Liz Sherwood-Randall, White House homeland security adviser, said the strategy calls on tech companies to establish zero-tolerance policies for hate speech on their social media platforms and ensure algorithms do not promote anti-Semitic language.
Meanwhile, White House domestic policy adviser Susan Rice said federal agencies will incorporate documentation on how to address anti-Semitism in future diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility training programs.
In December 2022, the Biden administration established a task force to coordinate efforts to combat anti-Semitism and other forms of religious bigotry. The group’s first task is to create a national strategy to combat anti-Semitism.
Officials have expressed concern about a record number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States, with a series of large-scale attacks on synagogues and Jewish businesses, the spread of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and vandalism involving the swastika, a symbol of fascism.
