The 10% base tariff on most trading partners began being enforced by US customs officers at airports, seaports and bonded warehouses on April 5. The first countries affected by the tariff include Australia, the UK, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Saudi Arabia.

Previously, the US Customs and Border Protection announced a 51-day grace period during which goods that were on board or in transit to the US before April 5 and arrived in the US before May 27 would not be subject to the 10% tax.

Meanwhile, the US will apply reciprocal tariffs ranging from 11% to 50% on 57 other trading partners from April 9. The European Union will be subject to a 20% tariff, while Chinese goods will be subject to a 34% tariff, in addition to the 20% currently applied.

On the social network TruthSocial, President Donald Trump asserted that his tariffs will help bring jobs and attract businesses to invest in the US like never before. Donald Trump asserted that this is an economic revolution and although it will not be easy, the end result will be historic.
