This is the sharing of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao, General Director of Multimedia Communications Corporation (VTC), at the Vietnam GameVerse 2024 Festival recently held.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao, if we understand games as a digital content industry based on digital technology, the first thing to pay attention to is digital human resources, the foundation of which is training. Previously, games were considered entertainment and useless, but from 2023, this view has changed. Last year, the Government did not include games in the list of subjects subject to special consumption tax, but considered it a potential industry that needs to be motivated to promote development and carry out systematic human resource training.
In Vietnam, most game developers research and create their own products. It is their passion, creativity, fearlessness of hardships and quick grasp of the market that has brought the Vietnamese game industry in 2023 into the world's top 5 with more than 4.2 billion downloads (according to Google statistics).
However, there are still many bad games due to lack of organization and knowledge. Therefore, training becomes an environment for game developers to learn and share with each other, so that knowledge is not lost and learners can know where to start.
VTC General Director believes that up to now, because people only understand games as entertainment, the space for games has become narrow. He gives the definition of game+ and game+++ so that people can understand games as a miniature society in the virtual world.
Games can be expanded to other fields, and may be the future of education. Typically, in learning history, instead of teaching in a dry traditional way, lessons can be transformed into games with historical content so that students can absorb it faster.
In addition, games can solve practical problems, for example, some real-world problems that cannot be solved can be brought to virtual space for testing first, then transformed into real space.
Returning to the training of the game industry, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao said that in Vietnam, games are considered an industry so a profession has been formed, but there is no formal training facility and certification for the game profession. Therefore, for the industry to develop in the long term, it is necessary to conduct systematic training. For a game product, the game design stage is the most important, but in Vietnam, this stage is still weak, so training needs to start from this stage.
Sharing the same view, Dr. Cao Minh Thang, Deputy Director of the CDiT Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, who is in charge of building the Game Design and Development Program, also shared that according to survey data over the past 3 years, Vietnam's game design capacity is still limited.
The domestic game industry mainly imports, edits, publishes or designs simple, trendy, and less creative game lines. In addition, design and development technology is still outdated, focusing too much on mobile games. Domestic developers have not yet taken advantage of the strengths of new technology, especially AI, although this topic has been discussed a lot in recent times.
Therefore, to reach the billion-dollar goal, the gaming industry needs an in-depth training program. Over the past two years, the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology has researched and developed a training program with the support of agencies, departments, and large companies.
In 2024, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology will be the first university in Vietnam to provide formal training in the game industry, focusing on two main areas: scenario design and game development. The curriculum will build a solid foundation of interdisciplinary knowledge, knowledge of history, civilization, and culture for students to design stories, balance, in-game economies, and apply AI...
At Vietnam GameVerse 2024, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology announced cooperation with large enterprises in the gaming industry to train high-quality human resources.
Meanwhile, VTC Game Academy Center also launched and signed cooperation agreements with units with formal training systems and extensive experience in digital content training such as the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, College of Information and Communications and the world's leading technology companies such as Google to train human resources in the gaming industry.
