At Hanoi's large fresh flower wholesale markets such as Quang Ba flower market (Quang An ward, Tay Ho district, Hanoi city), a variety of flowers for the first day of the lunar month have been sold since the 26th and 27th of the lunar calendar.

Ms. Dao Thoa, a wholesale flower trader at Quang An flower market, said that on holidays, New Year, the beginning of the month, and the full moon, traders in the market will import more chrysanthemums, lilies, roses, etc. to sell due to the strong increase in demand.

Flower prices do not fluctuate much this time, just slightly higher than usual due to the upcoming Lunar New Year. The increase depends on the type of flower and market demand.

“Like yesterday when I sold, many people asked to buy royal chrysanthemums but the whole market only had 2 stalls selling. That day, the price of royal chrysanthemums was inflated. Now it has dropped a bit, to more than 200,000 VND/50 flowers. Yellow net chrysanthemums are now only 160,000 VND/50 flowers,” Ms. Thoa added.

According to Dan Viet reporters, at the people's markets in Cau Giay, Tay Ho, Hoang Mai districts... the price of fresh flowers on the first day of the Lunar New Year increased slightly, only from 1,000 - 2,000 VND/flower compared to normal days. The price of yellow net chrysanthemums ranges from 5,000 - 6,000 VND/flower, roses from 5,000 - 6,000 VND/flower, 5-ear lilies from 5,000 - 6,000 VND/flower, 3-ear lilies from 2,000 - 3,000 VND/flower...

The price of flowers does not differ much, so consumers can easily choose to buy. Ms. Nguyen Phuong (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) shared: "I bought flowers for the first day of the lunar month at the market near my house, and I saw that the price of flowers did not increase much. Today I bought yellow net chrysanthemums for only 5,000 VND/flower, the flowers were beautiful so I bought them without bargaining."

Stable flower supply, farmers make profit

Sharing more about the reason for the slight fluctuation in flower prices, Ms. Dao Thoa, a wholesale flower trader at Quang An flower market, explained: This year, we have an abundant supply of flowers. Traders can import flowers from many provinces and cities such as Da Lat, Lao Cai , Yen Bai, etc., so there is no shortage of flowers and high prices.

On the other hand, customers today have many types of products to choose from. Those who like to follow traditional concepts can choose domestic chrysanthemums, domestic roses with many buds, many shoots, double flowers, branches... Those who like to "catch the trend", like big, beautiful, VIP, unique flowers can buy emperor chrysanthemums, peonies, foxgloves, delphiniums, lotuses...

In addition, the first day of the Lunar New Year this year also coincides with the Cold Food Festival and many events such as graduation ceremonies, yearbook photo shoots of schools... Traders need to calculate and adjust to ensure a stable source of goods before and after the first day of the Lunar New Year.

The price of flowers on the first day of the Lunar New Year has increased slightly, and the price of flowers purchased at the garden is also higher. Ms. Yen, a resident of Ha Loi village, said: In this area, we only grow flowers from the 10th lunar month of this year to the 3rd and 4th lunar months of next year. After this period, the low-lying fields are flooded, the sun and rain are erratic, and the plants cannot grow. The income of many families depends on this.

"My family specializes in growing roses. Last year, there was a storm and the price of flowers dropped too low, only 1,000 VND/flower, not enough money for fertilizer, so we suffered heavy losses. Near Tet, the price of flowers gradually increased, and we recovered our capital. This time, traders are buying my roses for 3,000 VND/flower. With this price, I have made a profit, enough money to pay for my children's education," Yen confided.
