This information was given at the workshop "Responding to electricity demand in hot season - Challenges and solutions" organized by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and Tien Phong Newspaper on the afternoon of April 21 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The workshop was attended by central and local management agencies, experts, scientists, electricity units, businesses and people who are electricity customers.

At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen The Huu - Deputy Director of the Electricity Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade said that providing electricity to achieve the economic growth target of 8%, ensuring people's lives, serving major political-diplomatic-cultural events in 2025... in conditions of increasingly negative weather impacts, is truly a big challenge for the electricity industry.

However, from the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promptly directed the electricity sector to effectively implement electricity supply solutions, while seeking and promoting measures to use electricity safely, economically and effectively during the hot season.

The Minister of Industry and Trade has issued decisions approving the electricity supply plan for 2025 and the peak dry season months. Accordingly, the load forecast for 2025 may increase by up to 12.2%, with an expected output of over 347.5 billion kWh, and a national maximum capacity of 54,510 MW.

Mr. Vo Quang Lam - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group said that in 2025, the unit aims to reach 300.9 billion kWh of commercial electricity, with a reserve plan of up to 305.6 billion kWh to meet the high growth scenario. The maximum load capacity of the entire system is expected to reach 54,510 MW, an increase of 11.35% compared to 2024.

The Group has also proactively developed electricity supply scenarios suitable for all situations, even when electricity demand grows by 12-13%, to ensure national energy security in the context of the country's economic growth target of 8%.

In recent days, the whole country, especially the North and South, is experiencing a heat wave with temperatures in many localities reaching 38 degrees Celsius. This has led to a spike in electricity demand, especially for household use and cooling.

Mr. Vo Quang Lam admitted that this is a significant pressure on the national power system, from generation, transmission to distribution. The power industry is proactively taking measures to ensure meeting electricity demand, in which calling for electricity saving is a very important solution.

"Why do we have to save electricity? The simple reason is that if we want to increase the competitiveness of the economy, the intensity of electricity use in Vietnam must certainly decrease significantly compared to the present, because it is currently much higher than other countries in terms of electricity use intensity. Especially, in the context of green transformation and circular economy today, this requirement is even more urgent for people and businesses, to live greener and be more responsible for the environment" - Mr. Lam shared.
