On June 30, the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Vinh Long province said that heavy rain and tornadoes that occurred on the afternoon of June 29 blew off the roofs of many houses in Long Ho, Mang Thit and Tam Binh districts.
Specifically, the tornado damaged 46 houses. Of these, 11 houses suffered severe damage of 50-70% (in An Hiep hamlet, Long An commune, Long Ho district); 20 houses suffered severe damage of 30-50% (3 houses in Mang Thit district and 17 houses in Tam Binh district); 15 houses suffered partial damage of less than 30% (mainly in Mang Thit and Tam Binh districts).
The storm knocked down several outbuildings, tents, electric poles and many trees. Initial estimates put the total damage caused by the storm at around 860 million VND.
On the morning of June 30, Mr. Ho Van Minh, Secretary of Long Ho District Party Committee, visited and encouraged families affected by the tornado; directed the People's Committee of Long An commune to urgently mobilize forces to support people in cleaning up, overcoming incidents, and helping people stabilize their lives. The locality urgently reviewed and counted the damage to promptly support people according to regulations; and propagated people to proactively reinforce their houses to ensure safety during the storm season.
Representatives of the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Mang Thit district and local leaders visited each affected household to encourage and inquire. Local authorities directed forces to support people in repairing their houses and overcoming electrical problems...
According to Luu Nhuan, Chief of the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Vinh Long province, after the tornado occurred, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of the districts, in coordination with the People's Committees of the affected communes, visited and encouraged each household.
Localities mobilized local forces and people to support affected households in cleaning up and moving furniture and belongings to safe places; repairing and restoring damaged houses, helping people stabilize their lives./.
