Video: Houses and crops devastated after hailstorm in Ha Giang on the evening of March 28
According to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Ha Giang province, the hailstorm that lasted for a long time on the evening of March 28 damaged the roofs of 1,291 houses in the communes of Bach Dich, Phu Lung, Thang Mo, Sung Chang, Sung Thai, Huu Vinh (Yen Minh district) and some communes in Meo Vac district.
Storms and whirlwinds accompanied by heavy rain also blew off the roof of Xin Cai Secondary School (Veo Vac) and over 20 houses in Lung Cu, Pho Cao communes (Dong Van) and Xin Cai, Khau Vai communes (Meo Vac).
In addition, hail damaged more than 270 hectares of corn and crops (over 243 hectares in Yen Minh district, 30 hectares in Meo Vac district), and damaged 69 livestock barns.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of the districts directly inspected, directed and mobilized forces to support people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, repairing houses, moving belongings and stabilizing their lives.
In Lao Cai , on the morning of March 29, thunderstorms occurred in some areas of Bat Xat district. Initial statistics from local authorities showed that 9 houses had their roofs blown off, one household had its power line damaged by lightning, and one car was damaged by a fallen tree.
The storm also affected a number of facilities such as vocational training centers, commune health stations, and roads in Bat Xat. The total damage is estimated at over 200 million VND.
At noon of the same day, answering VTC News reporter, Mr. Tao Van Sinh - Chairman of Y Ty Commune People's Committee (Bat Xat District) confirmed that the commune had just experienced heavy rain accompanied by hail.

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Y Ty commune, the rain accompanied by strong winds started from about 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. The hail lasted for about 5 minutes. This is the first hailstorm to hit Lao Cai province since the beginning of 2024.
"Hail was concentrated in Ngai Tro, Lao Chai villages and the center of Y Ty commune, lasting about 5 minutes, the hailstones were about 1 - 1.5cm in diameter, the larger ones were 2cm. In the center of Y Ty commune, a large amount of hailstones fell down quite thickly," Mr. Sinh informed.
According to the forecast of Lao Cai Province Hydrometeorological Station, the cold air intensity is starting to weaken, however, the high-altitude wind convergence zone still exists. Therefore, there is still a possibility of hail, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes on the day and night of March 29, so localities need to take precautions.
In Son La , widespread hail and strong winds occurred on the afternoon of March 28, seriously affecting crops, especially plum trees of Moc Chau district residents.
Accordingly, hail appeared in Moc Chau town, Moc Chau Farm town and some neighboring communes in Moc Chau district with strong intensity in 2 waves, the first wave at around 13:00, the second wave at around 16:00, each hail wave lasted 15 - 20 minutes.

Stones with a diameter of 1-2cm, along with heavy rain and strong winds, affected about 2,500 hectares of plum trees bearing fruit in the sub-regions: Pa Khen, Ta Loong, Cho Long, Mia Duong, Ban On...
Currently, Moc Chau district is directing communes and towns to review damage, guide and support households to overcome the consequences.
In Yen Bai , at around 9am on March 28, a hailstorm occurred locally in the central area of Mu Cang Chai district, lasting about 30 minutes, with hailstones the size of a fingertip. Through a quick check, the hailstorm did not destroy houses but damaged some of the people's vegetable crops.
