A sailor in Phu Yen was stabbed in the stomach by a marlin.

According to the initial report of the Phu Yen Provincial Border Guard, at 2:00 a.m. on October 6, 2023, at 0855'N-11008'E (about 120 nautical miles southeast of Phu Quy/Binh Thuan), the fishing boat with license plate PY-96549 TS captained by Mr. Nguyen Van Kiem had a crew member seriously injured.

The victim was Mr. Tran Van Nhut (39 years old), who was working when he was stabbed in the stomach by a marlin, seriously injured and fell into a coma.

The victim was assisted by officers and soldiers of Ship CN-09 to be brought ashore for emergency treatment.

Ship PY-96549 TS urgently moved to bring the victim to Phu Quy island for emergency treatment. At this time, the ship was about 60 nautical miles from Phu Quy island.

Because the ship was moving slowly and the victim's health was in poor condition, Captain Kiem sent a signal requesting emergency assistance.

Immediately, the Border Guard of Binh Thuan province dispatched ship CN-09 with 13 officers and soldiers (including 1 station commander and 1 local medical worker) to go to the rescue.

At around 2:00 p.m., ship CN09 approached fishing boat PY 96549 TS and medical staff provided care and first aid to the crew member who was stabbed by the marlin.

Currently, ship CN-09 is on its way to take this crew member to Phu Quy District Military Medical Center for emergency treatment.
