A corporation proposes to cover the cost of researching the metro line connecting Can Gio district.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just sent a document responding to Vingroup Corporation regarding its proposal to invest in an urban railway connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Can Gio district.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, on January 6, the unit held a meeting with relevant departments, agencies and sectors about the proposal to build a metro line to Can Gio by Vingroup Corporation.

Ho Chi Minh City is also planning to build Can Gio Bridge with the goal of starting construction on April 30 and completing it in 2028.

At the meeting, the Group's representative gave a preliminary report on the proposed investment plan and opinions of the attending units.

After the meeting, Vingroup Corporation agreed to send a document to the Department of Transport to clearly define the content of the project research proposal (including technical plan, research scope, project investment form, research funding source, rights and responsibilities of related parties...).

On that basis, the Department of Transport will advise and propose to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to consider approving the project implementation procedures.

Previously, in a document proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Vingroup said that Ho Chi Minh City is carrying out procedures related to the establishment, appraisal and approval of the project to adjust the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan to 2040, with a vision to 2060.

In the traffic planning scheme in the master plan adjustment project, the City People's Committee assigned relevant departments and agencies to study and supplement the urban railway route (appropriate type) from the center to Can Gio district according to the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

Ho Chi Minh City is also planning to build Can Gio Bridge with the goal of starting construction on April 30 and completing it in 2028.

When completed, the project will replace Binh Khanh ferry, which is currently the only means of transport connecting Can Gio district with the central area. At the same time, it will promote the development of sea encroachment projects and Can Gio international transit port.

"Vingroup Corporation finds that the research and investment in the urban railway connecting the city center with Can Gio district according to the policy of Ho Chi Minh City is completely consistent with the trend and demand for traffic development. Thereby ensuring the connection between the city center and Can Gio district - a new development center of Ho Chi Minh City," the document stated.

At the same time, the combination of investment in the urban railway line with investment in the construction of Can Gio bridge will ensure synchronization between the technical system.

This helps save time and investment costs in building Can Gio bridge as well as bridges for urban railway lines.

Therefore, Vingroup Corporation requests the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to allow it to study and survey to propose an investment plan for an urban railway connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Can Gio district, on the basis of combining with the investment in the construction of Can Gio bridge to ensure connectivity, synchronization of technical infrastructure and saving investment costs. Vingroup will take care of these costs.

Vingroup Corporation proposed that Ho Chi Minh City create favorable conditions to allow it to coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and the consulting unit implementing the Can Gio bridge project to research, survey, and find suitable technical and investment-effective solutions to combine the urban railway project with the Can Gio bridge project.

Based on the approval of the policy, Vingroup will closely coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City departments and branches and consulting units with professional capacity and experience to soon complete the research, establish and propose feasible and effective plans to submit to Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration as soon as possible.
