In addition to sightseeing activities, some destinations in the province still allow visitors to “ride horses to see the flowers”. Therefore, these destinations mainly attract individual and independent visitors, and have not attracted visitors from travel agencies.
Tourists visit orange growing areas in Thach Thanh district.
Thach Thanh district has many "identified" destinations such as: Voi waterfall, May waterfall, Ngoc Trao war zone, Pho Cat scenic relic - one of the three major centers of worshiping the Holy Mother Lieu Hanh in the country... Especially, Con Moong cave relic was ranked as a special national relic in 2015 and is currently building a dossier to submit to UNESCO for inclusion in the list of World Cultural Heritage. Thach Thanh district is also known for its high-tech agricultural farms in Van Du town and Thanh Tan and Thanh Minh communes... These are extremely valuable "materials" for Thach Thanh district to exploit and develop diverse tourism products to attract tourists.
However, according to statistics from the People's Committee of Thach Thanh district, from 2021 to now, the whole district has only welcomed about 420 thousand visitors; total tourism revenue reached nearly 230 billion VND, reaching 0.46% compared to the total tourism revenue of the whole province. It is worth mentioning that tourists coming to Thach Thanh district are mainly day visitors, the rate of staying guests is low, reaching about 9.87% compared to mountainous districts and nearly 2% compared to the number of tourists in the whole province.
Speaking at the conference on promoting, promoting and orienting the development of typical tourism products in Thach Thanh district on October 23, Vice Chairman of Thach Thanh District People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Tam frankly stated: "Tourism in the district has not really developed commensurate with its potential and inherent advantages. Many tourism resources are still neglected, and destinations are not attractive to tourists. The district has a special national relic, Con Moong cave and neighboring relics, but this resource is highly specific and picky. Tourism activities at tourist destinations such as May waterfall, Voi waterfall... are still seasonal and spontaneous, so they have not retained tourists, and limited services have led to low tourism revenue."
Quan Son district is home to the Thai, Muong, Kinh, Mong ethnic groups... with unique traditional cultural values, which are still preserved through cultural activities, festivals and daily life. Up to now, some tourist destinations of the district have been "listed" on the provincial tourism map such as: Tu Ma Hai Dao Temple, Pha Lo Bridge, Hom Cave, Bo Cung Cave, Chanh Village, Ngam Village, Nang Non Cave, Pha Bai Cave, Co Lay Cave, Luon Lang Cave... Along with that, the district also owns a system of beautiful waterfalls, rivers and streams such as: Nhai Village Waterfall, Pa Waterfall, Luong River, Xia Stream, Trung Thuong Hot Spring... In particular, the district has Na Meo International Border Gate, which is an important gateway for trade and tourism between Thanh Hoa and the North Central region with Laos. In 2019, the Provincial People's Committee announced the Quan Son (Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam) - Vieng Xay (Hua Phan province, Laos) tour, with 5 tours within the Quan Son region and 7 tours connecting the two provinces.
With many favorable conditions to become an attractive destination in the West of Thanh Hoa, however, from 2021 to the end of October 2024, the whole district only welcomed about 70 thousand visitors, mainly day visitors. Total tourism revenue reached about 20 billion VND, reaching 0.043% of the total tourism revenue of the whole province. Quan Son district tourism has initially attracted visitors, but revenue is still very low compared to other localities in the province. Meanwhile, the "Project on developing community tourism in Quan Son district until 2025, with a vision to 2030" was approved in 2019, earlier than many other localities in the province. In 2022, the Provincial People's Committee continued to approve the "Project on developing organic agriculture combined with eco-tourism in Quan Son district until 2025, with a vision to 2030". However, up to now, the district's tourism has not yet made its mark on the province's tourism map. Tourists coming to Quan Son district mainly visit community tourism, explore caves during the day or for about 2 days and 1 night.
Tourism expert Ngo Ky Nam commented: “In reality, some destinations in Thanh Hoa province still let visitors “ride horses to see flowers” for many reasons, which could be related to tourism products, services, connecting transportation systems... But the most important thing is that the destination is not attractive enough for tourists. Because if we want tourists to stay longer, the problem is not due to the difficult transportation system, or the accommodation facilities not being able to receive visitors, but the destination is not attractive, not different enough for tourists to want to learn and experience longer. Meanwhile, the destinations that have not retained tourists are mostly spontaneous, without a specific, systematic, long-term development strategy; tourism propaganda and promotion work is still limited... In particular, there are not enough investors with enough capacity to exploit and promote the potential and values in accordance with the cultural characteristics of the destination”.
