From a farming household with many difficulties, now Mr. Truong Ngoc Nhat in Phu Gia commune, Vice Chairman of the Good Farmers and Business Club of Phu Vang district (Thua Thien Hue province) has risen to become rich legitimately in his homeland with an aquaculture model.
Although he had a lot of land, Mr. Nhat did not know what to plant or raise to escape poverty. Since receiving advice, guidance, and technical support from the Farmers' Association at all levels, Mr. Nhat has not only boldly started aquaculture but also expanded and developed the farming scale to 9 hectares.
On this area, he dug 26 ponds, each pond is 3,000 - 5,000m2 wide on average, for mixed aquaculture (raising shrimp with silver pomfret and mullet).
In the early days of aquaculture, Mr. Nhat encountered many difficulties. The reclaimed area was large, could not be dug manually, and required a large amount of capital to invest in digging ponds, purchasing equipment, machinery, breeds, food, etc. to serve the farming needs.
From accumulated capital combined with loans from many channels, Mr. Nhat invested all in aquaculture. For the past few years, he has annually raised 100 million shrimps, 100,000 crabs, 1.2 million silver pomfret, and 100,000 mullet.
Thanks to mastering techniques and effectively handling diseases, the output from aquaculture is very promising each year, with 15 tons of shrimp, 54 tons of silver pomfret, and 30 tons of mullet each year. The total income from aquaculture is more than 11 billion VND, after deducting expenses, he earns about 2 billion VND/year.
To provide food for his family's aquaculture, and at the same time support and help members develop their economy, Mr. Nhat invested in a new food business model, by selling post-harvest food to pay nearly 200 farming households, with each household receiving between 60 and 100 million VND. Annual revenue from this field reaches 12 billion VND.
Mr. Truong Ngoc Nhat in Phu Gia commune, Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province harvests silver pomfret in a shrimp pond combined with raising silver pomfret and mullet. Mr. Nhat's aquaculture model brings in tens of billions of dong in revenue.
Thereby contributing to supporting poor farming households and farmer members to develop aquaculture. Thus, it is estimated that the total annual revenue of the family from aquaculture and aquaculture feed business reaches 23 billion VND, after deducting all expenses, the profit is about 2.35 billion VND/year.
Mr. Nhat shared that to achieve that result, in the process of aquaculture, in addition to practical experience, he often cooperates with large companies in the field of aquaculture to apply technology, science and technology to aquaculture.
He is also regularly organized by partner companies to learn experience and receive scientific and technical training in many localities in the country and in more than 10 countries.
Through that, he summarized and drew out farming processes and methods suitable for local soil conditions to apply to his aquaculture model.
Mr. Nhat is also always a pioneer in participating in association activities and farmers' movements in the locality; willing to share his knowledge and experience in aquaculture with members and farmers to develop the family economy together.
Mr. Nhat's aquaculture model also creates regular jobs for 15 local workers with an income of 12 million VND/month and seasonal jobs for 40 workers.
Mr. Ho Minh Thanh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Gia Commune, Phu Vang District (Thua Thien Hue Province) assessed that Mr. Nhat's aquaculture model is not only typical of local members and farmers but also of the entire Phu Vang District, even the entire province.
The support from farmers' associations at all levels is mainly a "fishing rod" and a guide. The important thing is Mr. Nhat's efforts, attempts to rise up, and systematic investment in exploiting potential and advantages.
This model is also a bright spot and motivation for members and farmers to learn and boldly invest in development to exploit and promote the potential and advantages of farming locally and in Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province.
