Talking to Dan Viet reporter, farmer Le Quang Hoan ( born in 1974, in Sen Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province), shared: "After many years of struggling with many jobs to make a living, in 2006, I returned to my hometown with the dream of getting rich on the land of my ancestors."

According to Mr. Le Quang Hoan, on the first day, he bought 2 pepper seedlings to try planting. Seeing that the plants were suitable for the soil, he decided to buy a few hundred more pepper seedlings.

Mr. Hoan said: "Pepper is grown according to organic, natural processes, on red basalt soil with a harsh climate. Moreover, nature has gifted us with pure irrigation water from Bau Sen Lake, so the peppercorns are smaller, more fragrant, and spicier than pepper from other localities."

Up to now, with an area of ​​0.5 hectares of hill garden, Mr. Hoan has planted more than 200 pepper trees, each tree grows luxuriantly, embracing the long muc tree (a tree for the pepper tree trunk to wrap around). When the season comes, the green leaves stretch out, the pepper branches are heavy with seeds.

To affirm the value and bring the Sen Thuy pepper brand to the world. In 2019, Mr. Hoan invited farmers in the area to establish the Sen Thuy Clean Agricultural Products Production and Trading Cooperative, with 15 members, of which he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of the Cooperative.

The freeze-dried pepper product of the cooperative owned by Mr. Le Quang Hoan has been recognized as meeting the 4-star OCOP standard of Quang Binh province in 2023.

Currently, the cooperative has 8 hectares of pepper growing land, including 3 hectares of organic pepper and has linked 10 hectares with 50 households in Sen Thuy and Thai Thuy communes and will link 30 more households, each with an area of ​​0.5 hectares in Mai Thuy and Phu Thuy communes.

Making OCOP products is not only for sale but also for love of homeland.

Mr. Le Quang Hoan said: "The cooperative's cold-dried pepper products have been recognized as meeting the 4-star OCOP standards of Quang Binh province in 2023."

Farmer Le Quang Hoan often brings freeze-dried pepper products to introduce and promote at fairs and events.

"I often go to fairs and events inside and outside the province to display and introduce freeze-dried pepper products and am always proud to say that making 4-star OCOP pepper is not only about profit, it is also about love for the homeland.

Speaking of Sen Thuy pepper, it appeared more than 2 decades ago, very fragrant, spicy, and is an excellent spice for dishes. However, very few people know about it, and after many sleepless nights, I decided to spend money and effort to make quality pepper, not only to reach out to other provinces but also to export abroad," said Mr. Hoan.

When scanning the QR code on the packaging of freeze-dried pepper products, information about this product and relics and scenic spots in Quang Binh will appear.

On the packaging of the freeze-dried pepper product, there are both Vietnamese and English. In particular, the QR code is not only used to trace the origin and introduce the product, but also displays information about historical relics and scenic spots of Quang Binh, such as: General Vo Nguyen Giap Memorial House; Quang Binh Quan; Hoang Son Doong...

"To improve the quality of its products, the cooperative has continuously invested in purchasing modern machinery and equipment. Each year, the cooperative sells about 15 tons of dry pepper, with a total value of more than 1 billion VND.

At the same time, it is the first and only cooperative in Quang Binh province to produce pepper in a closed chain from household gardens to facilities, applying modern Japanese processing technology," Mr. Le Quang Hoan shared.
