At around 10 p.m. on April 10, at the cardamom farm of Mr. Sung A Pao's family (born in 1979) in Chu Va 8 village, Son Binh commune, Tam Duong district, a suspected case of food poisoning occurred.

The three people suspected of being poisoned include: Mr. Sung A Pao, Mr. Sung A Duong (born in 2004) and Ms. Giang Thi C (born in 2007). After the three people ate lunch and dinner with white rice, chicken, and three mushrooms picked by Mr. Pao from his family's cardamom field, they showed signs of poisoning. The three mushrooms were shaped like umbrellas and were dark brown in color.

After dinner, at 10pm on April 10, Ms. Giang Thi C showed the first symptoms such as: stomach ache, nausea (vomited about 9 times), and frequent bowel movements. At around 1am on April 11, Mr. Sung A Duong showed similar symptoms.

At 4:00 a.m. on April 11, Mr. Sung A Pao also showed the above symptoms (vomiting about 5 times). At 6:00 p.m. on the same day, the patients were taken to Tam Duong District Medical Center for examination and treatment.

Two patients, Sung A Duong and Giang Thi C, were transferred to Lai Chau General Hospital for treatment at 0:40 a.m. on April 14. At Lai Chau General Hospital, Giang Thi C was diagnosed with acute liver failure suspected of being caused by mushroom poisoning and gastrointestinal bleeding. Sung A Duong was diagnosed with acute liver failure suspected of being caused by mushroom poisoning.

On April 15, patients Giang Thi C and Sung A Duong were transferred to Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment.

By 11pm on April 16, patient Giang Thi C had died and was taken home for burial. Patient Sung A Duong continues to be treated at Bach Mai Hospital. Currently, patient Sung A Pao is in stable health, alert, not vomiting, and not having diarrhea.

Lai Chau provincial authorities recommend that people be cautious when using mushrooms harvested from the wild. If the origin or type of mushroom is unclear, it should not be used to avoid unfortunate incidents.
