"We always teach our children to love work and study hard. Only then will they have knowledge, become useful people in the future, and have less difficulties and hardships in life..." - That is the story of Mr. Do Van Quan, 80 years old and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Khuy, 78 years old, Xuan Hoi village, Xuan Chinh commune (Kim Son district) - a studious Catholic family, always striving and actively building a happy and cultured family.

Entering Mr. Do Van Quan's house, one encounters a green, clean, beautiful, and airy living space. The lovely old wooden house with a bright red tiled roof is located squarely in a campus with many trees and fruits. The large garden, areas for growing perennial fruit trees, ornamental plants, fish ponds, livestock areas... are arranged appropriately. The highlight is the small garden in front of the house with dozens of blooming rose and bougainvillea trees, with brilliant colors.

Over a cup of fragrant tea and fruits picked from his garden, Mr. Do Van Quan recalled the years of hardship and suffering, "starving and not wearing clothes" to raise 6 children (3 boys, 3 girls) to adulthood. Not only that, Mr. and Mrs. Quan also fulfilled their responsibility in finding wives and husbands for their children when they reached marriageable age.

The "sweet fruit" that helps grandparents enjoy their old age is when their children all have stable jobs, the family lives happily together, especially the filial piety of the children when they always pay attention, care for, and encourage their parents to live happily and healthily.

Mr. Quan shared: Decades ago, in the countryside, every family's life was difficult and hard. Families with many children, many births, and children like mine were even more miserable. There was a lot of farm work, my wife and I really never dared to think about resting. In addition to farming, I also had a tailoring job, but back then everyone was struggling, there weren't many people sewing clothes, and the income from the job was not worth much. To have money to pay for our children's education, my wife and I had to plant more acres of rice, go all the way to Nam Dinh to trade potatoes, trade rice...

"As a Catholic family, we always remember that in the Catholic teachings, love, sharing, and filial piety are always put first. So from the time our children were young, my wife and I agreed to educate them to respect their elders, love their parents and siblings, care for and help each other. In particular, we need to take the family's roots and traditions to work hard, study hard... train ourselves, establish ourselves and make a career." - Mr. Quan shared.

Listening to their parents, Mr. Quan's children all studied hard and achieved many successes. Of the 6 children, 3 studied at universities, 2 of whom studied medicine. Currently, 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law of Mr. Quan's family are working at Ninh Binh General Hospital. The remaining children work and do business in Ninh Binh city and their hometown of Kim Son.

Up to now, the sons-in-law and daughters-in-law of Mr. Quan's family all have stable jobs and are financially well-off. In particular, the grandchildren in the extended family are all good students. Many of them have tried hard to pass the entrance exam and study at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, then go to study at top universities in the country such as the University of Medicine, Hanoi University of Foreign Languages, FPT University. Some are currently studying abroad in Japan, some have graduated and been accepted to work at units and businesses that require professional qualifications, skills, and good foreign languages.

To build a happy, cultured family, according to Mr. Do Van Quan, love and family cohesion play a very important role. Currently, the ancient wooden house is over 100 years old, has been preserved by him since his ancestors' time, is always renovated, and becomes a place for children and grandchildren to gather on weekends. On normal days, when the children all have their own families and take care of their own homes, the grandparents take care of and encourage each other to live happily and healthily, becoming an example for their children and grandchildren to follow.

Ms. Do Thi Thanh, daughter of Mr. Do Van Quan and Ms. Nguyen Thi Khuy, shared: I married a man from the same village and do small business in my hometown. Promoting the family tradition and the contributions of my parents, I work hard, build the family economy, and at the same time care for and encourage my children to study hard and be obedient. Now my children are all grown up, have finished university and have stable jobs. I live near my parents' house so I can run back and forth, regularly visit them about their health and life, take good care of them when the weather changes, set an example for my younger siblings and help my parents live happily and healthily.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, a cultural official of Xuan Chinh commune (Kim Son district), Mr. Do Van Quan's family is a Catholic family that has won many titles, such as a studious family, a cultural family, and a typical happy family of the commune. Over the years, Mr. Quan's family has always been exemplary and well implemented emulation movements and campaigns in the locality. He, his wife and their family have always lived exemplary lives, in harmony and affection, achieving the standards in building a family of "exemplary grandparents and parents, filial children and grandchildren", and are trusted and loved by relatives and neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Quan's example of living and raising filial children and grandchildren is always respected and followed by local people.
