Fecon Joint Stock Company proposed to build a tunnel under Dong Nai River instead of Cat Lai Bridge project to reduce site clearance and impact on people.
On November 15, the Department of Transport of Dong Nai province had a working session with Fecon Joint Stock Company and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co.STEC Company on cooperation in investing in underground traffic infrastructure projects in Dong Nai province.
At the meeting, Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partners proposed the idea of building a tunnel across Dong Nai River to replace the Cat Lai Bridge Project connecting Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.
A representative of Fecon Joint Stock Company said that building a tunnel across the river instead of a bridge will limit problems related to site clearance and minimize the impact on people living in the project planning area.

Responding to the enterprise's proposal, Mr. Nguyen Bon, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Department of Transport, requested Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partners to conduct further research and report a detailed plan to the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee.
Dong Nai also requested that the enterprise proactively work with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to reach an agreement on the plan to build a tunnel under the Dong Nai River.
Currently, Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City have not yet agreed on the construction time of Cat Lai Bridge.
While Dong Nai province wants to start the project before 2025, Ho Chi Minh City proposes to build Cat Lai Bridge after 2030.
Explaining this proposal, the HCM City Department of Transport said that after 2030, Ring Road 3 (HCMC) and the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road will be put into operation (including Nhon Trach Bridge connecting to Thu Duc City). Furthermore, the construction of Cat Lai Bridge after 2030 will be in line with the relocation and arrangement of seaports in HCM City.
When building the bridge, the HCM City Department of Transport also proposed reducing the scale of Cat Lai Bridge from 8 lanes to 6 lanes to match the planning of Nguyen Thi Dinh Street. If 8 lanes are built, Nguyen Thi Dinh Street will have to be widened from 60 m to 77 m, affecting the land use situation on both sides of the road.
After many discussions, the two localities have yet to agree on the time to build Cat Lai Bridge.
