Times Higher Education (THE) has just announced the best university rankings in Asia in 2025. This year, Vietnam has 9 ranked schools, an increase of 3 representatives compared to last year.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is a new representative of Vietnam in this ranking but leads with position 136. Following are Ton Duc Thang University (group 201 - 250) and Duy Tan University (group 251 - 300).
Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University are also new representatives in groups 401-500 and 501-600, respectively.
The remaining representatives are similar to last year, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University and Hue University with almost the same rankings, in the 501-600 and 601+ groups.

In terms of Asia, China 'dominates' the rankings as Tsinghua University and Peking University maintain their first and second positions, and is also the only country with 7 universities in the top 10.
Some other representatives in this group come from Singapore and Japan such as National University of Singapore (3rd), Nanyang Technological University (4th), University of Tokyo (5th).
In 2025, THE ranked 853 universities from over 30 countries and territories. Four countries had their universities ranked for the first time: Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Mongolia and Syria.
Universities are evaluated based on 18 criteria, divided into 5 areas: Research quality (30%), research environment (28%), teaching (24.5%), income from knowledge transfer (10%), international outlook (7.5%).
